Default intermittent engine light

I have a 2010 Ultra Limited. On occasion, after I turn the bike on and before starting it up, after the engine light goes out, the engine light lights up again and remains on after the bike is started. Not all the time. When I brought the bike to the dealer, the light was out and they told me the code was "historic" and could not find anything wrong. The bike has about 2 thousand miles on it and this has happened about 6-8 times over the year I have had the bike. When this light comes back on and after I start the bike and it is running, there does not seem to be anything out of the ordinary with the performance or ride. After I turn the bike off, it may or may not happen when I restart the bike, and may or may not happen for weeks or months. Any ideas on what this may be? Any problem with riding when the light is on? Any ideas on what to do short of getting the bike to the dealer when the light is on?
Thanks in advance.

Yes it could be historic codes for something it read. The problem must be intermittent because 50 ignition cycles will clear the codes if the problems is gone. Take a look at what codes your getting and go from there is what I would suggest. There is a thread around here somewhere that tells you how to read the codes or it is the electric diagnostic manual if you have one.

It may not be about any code at all!
To eliminate all the intermittent posibilities, I would clean (real cleaner), and apply diaelectric paste to ALL the connecttors, such as ECM.
I guess you have to do it by yourself, rather than pay the dealer.
It's just me, and of course, I have no clue what the problem is.
Let us know if you have any further info.

Do you know what codes it is storing?
Hold down the odometer reset button then turn the key **** on then off then on again. Do not start the bike during this procedure. The speedo and tack will peg over to the right then return. A set of codes will appear in your mileage screen. You can toggle through the 5 catagories of codes using the odometer reset button.

Thanks for the replies. I'll report back.
Do you think there is any problem riding the bike?
