After it starts, then its off. 02 RKC runs fine, in fact it is running great. So is the light telling me I have something wrong, or had something but not now? Is there a typical reason for a CE light that comes for only 9 seconds after start? This happened about 100 miles after I replaced the Y-Pipe.
Check to see if you have any codes. (There are how-to's on the site somewhere.) If you are not throwing any codes, then there is prolly nothing to worry about.
My 04 RK F/I check engine light comes on sometimes, but that is because of the PowerCommander. I just ignore it.
Now, if it comes on while you're riding, and stays on, then you have something wrong.
This is what I understand about the codes. I may be wrong, so take this for what it's worth.
If the light comes on and stays on it means you have an "active" problem or concern. If the light does what yours is doing it is "historical", as in there was a problem of some sort at one time but it has corrected. If you have the bike hooked up to the analyzer at your dealer it will most likely show a historical code and the tech can reset the system and eliminate the light coming on. And someone who knows a lot more about this that me can tell us if there is any truth to this.....if the ignition cycles through 50 times, it will automatically reset historical codes.(?)
To me, it would make sense that this occured after you replaced the y-pipe.
Mine did the same about 2moths. ago tried to start it to fast after turning on the ignition, after 50 starts and running about a minute or two it will quit.(if you don't have a stored code)
