OK, I did some searching before posting this but was wondering after looking at several of my friends bike if there was any difference in the pre 06 swingarms on the FXST as opposed to the 06's with the 200mm rear tire. It appears to me the only difference is the pulley on my 06 which is some what narrower than my buddies pre 06 stuff. Just wondering cause you can sure find a chrome swingarm ALLOt cheaper for a pre 06 bike..............if not shoot me in the right direction for the best deal. Thanks allot and happy trails.
I have a chrome swing arm for an 06softail, (200mm) I am considering selling, brand new, installed and never ridden once, changed the appearance back to black again. If interested, make me an offer. I paid $400 new. As for your question, I am not sure on the width of it being the same and/or working. I didnt think it would work due to the size/width difference. Maybe someone has more knowledge on that than me though...
[align=left]I have an 06 FXST, and my buddies 04 Springer is parked in my garage right now. I just did a comparison and I can't seem to find any differences. He ground off his belt guard tabs; maybe they were different??? It is also possible the swingarms would have to be removed to tell the difference. If you happen to find out what the difference is in the future, please post it. I am curious now.

Will do, I mean your right....just looking at them there is no "noticeable" difference other than brake caliper, pulley, etc. But the difference may be in the mounting or whatnot.
When I compared my '06 Standard to my buddy's '05 NT the frame/swingarmwere wider onmy '06...I'm not sure aboutwhere the axle slides thru but definitely where the swingarm pivots...I was going to buy his solo seat but it wouldn't fit on my bike because his frame was narrower.
I don't think your frame is wider, it's just that the struts on 06 and later wide tire bikes, make use of the third (front)hole in the frame. Your struts bolt into the front and back hole, andon the earlier bikes, the struts use the two back holes, and the third (front)holecan be used for solo seats. If you want to check, the frame on the 00-05 bike is 11 3/4" wide under the seat. I don't have one here to measure, but I'm pretty sure that'saccurate.
Alright, I went back out thoroughly inspected the swingarms on both softies in my garage. Well, as thorough as can be without removing them. I measured the width at the bottom of the boomerang, where the passenger pegs mount, and the upper arm about halfway between the boomerang and the axle hole. All measurements are equal. The height also appears to be equal. The visual inspection also turned up nothing. As mentioned previously, my buddy ground the belt guard tabs off his, so I have no way to compare them. But I bet that is where the difference is.
BTW, I also checked Harley's web site. The swingarms may be different, but the pivot axle kit is the same 2000 and up.
