Are Stock Softail Speedometers The Same Size For All Models?
Hey Gang,
I'm wondering if the stock speedometers on Softails are all the same size? I want to interchange my Stock 2008 Crossbones speedometer with that of a Heritage Softail or maybe a Softail Deluxe but in some cases I see that there are referred to as 4.5" and in other cases 5" in diameter...in some cases for the same speedometer. I measured mine and if I just measure the chrome outer ring it's closer to 4.5" with measurements reaching closer to 5" if I measure out to the rubber gasket.
The Softails with the same dash setup and dimension should all work interchangeble and plug and play. I think it was 199-2003, the 2004-2010(not sure on 2010?), then the newer models. While they are the same dimensions, the plug in the back will not plug and there are different features for the wiring. So in most cases that the years line up you can interchange. If outside of window on years, it would require some wiring.
I am pretty sure it goes... 1999-2003, 2004-2010, 2011-later. I might be off on something, but in general whether it has tach or not they will plug and play interchangeable on those years.

I'm pretty sure you are correct on these years. I have a 1998 and have the 99-03 speedo/tach combo on mine but it has a pig tail adaptor. Older ones are plug and play, newer ones sync to CPU.
The 2011 Heritage does not have a tach. Thats why I'm thinking it may fit the 05 Standard. I am dropping up to my fathers garage tonight to have a look.

Don't think it matters tach/no tach, the plugs will be different. Unless you can get an adaptor for the 2005. And the newer ones sync, so you can't just drop a low mileage speedo in an older bike.
