JD, been there. Still there. Been riding since 86', and with kids, the bikes have sat, a lot! But it's there when you can, and sometimes sitting and wrenching is almost as relaxing (almost!). I have to agree with most of the Gents here. Hope for the best, but plan for the worst. To me, good insurance and planning for the family is a must even if you only sit on the couch and flip channels, so great point. Some day tomorrow's not gonna come Bud. Besides, kids prefer a cool Dad on a bike anyway! If you can, keep it and let it sit. You deserve a bit of life too! Family first, but we still count every now and again!!!

I've been riding since I was 16 (now 58) and when I had my bike and my first son was born, I decided to sell. I had to wait 15 years before I got on another ride. I should never had sold the bike. If you can afford to keep the bike, do so. You will regret selling it.....

I quit riding for 25 years while my kids were growing up and do not regret it, but wish that I hadn't.

Ya know Dude, I have another option and it may sound silly but it is food for thought. If it's paid for and you do NOT need the money for your kids, wife or home, how bout this? Do you have a good, dry and safe place to park and store your bike, like at a Brother or Sisters home as an example? If so, out of sight out of mind!!! Park the bike there where it's safe and stored properly for another day. I do NOT mean park it there and let it sit for 15 or 20 years but a nice safe dry and safe place for it then go over once in a while for a little ride or whatever! Go do some maintenance on it when needed, a wash and wax now and then and to put a few miles on it every now and then to keep it from just sitting there, rusting and rotting away. That honestly sounds better to me each time I even read this myself, my own post! That way it's there if you ever want or need it. You can always sell it Dude, just like you could always buy a new or used bike too. Like I said, if your kids are fed, the house payment is getting made, mama's happy, why rush? If you DO need to sell it for any of those reasons than yea, I would support your decisions to do that as well. Hell, maybe I would even slide you a few bucks if that was the issue too, seriously! I Hate to see anyone HAVE to sell their bike. Most of us here has sold ours in the past for family reasons including myself. I say if nothing else, don't rush. I had to sell my last 2 bikes for family reasons and I would do it again tomorrow in a heartbeat but if you do not have too, don't rush.

Thanks guys. I don't think the bike is going to go anywhere, other than in the garage on the battery tender and jack when it is not being riden. Even if it is a 1000 miles a year for the next few years. Kids are fed, clothes on there backs, bills and house are all getting paid and saving what we can. Also I am like most of you guys. Family always comes 110% first. There have many rides I have wanted to go on but haven't because family and family events that come first.
