i bought the waterproof "green grease". supposed to be ideal for high heat and wet weather use. didn't want grease dripping onto my front tire while riding.

That was what I was thinking. The only way this even close to makes any sense is if he only rides under 1K per year. And if that is the case, that is HOG abuse.

Just be careful mixing stuff like this. You end up lowering the specs of the higher quality "stuff".

Wish I had your money. I'd throw mine away.

what would you consider "higher quality stuff"
i didn't see any grease on the chemical shelf at my local dealer.
i'm pretty much a stickler when it comes to the chemicals i use on the bikes.
my yammy gets yama-lube and yamaha filters and the harley gets h/d oil and h/d filters. i figured if dealer dont bother selling h/d grease, i dont need to bother using it.

That's obviously a typo !

The manufacturer recommends that the first service is at 1K and every 10K thereafter - shorter intervals can do no harm, but wouldn't see any gains such as cooler running or extended life.
If what you meant was you're servicing it every 1K and the dealer every 10K, you're more likely going through drain plugs, and at risk of stripping the drain threads.

i didn't see any grease on the chemical shelf at my local dealer.
You can get HD brand grease in the tub, and in a tube for a grease gun. Maybe your dealer has it hidden....It is excellent stuff, I have no clue as to what company makes it.

Now that I`m thinking about it, I think it is about time to pull the front end apart and repack the steering head bearings on my Softail (no grease fitting). It needs it about every 10 years or so...

I can tell you this though, steering is a HELL of a lot easier. almost scary. gotta get used to it.
making right turns from a stop i always had to pull hard on the bars. now they move like butter.
apparently dealer never added any grease and they didn't do the fallaway test.
Really didnt want to spend the almost $500 for the first service where they were supposed to go over everything but i didn't want to have any issues with warranty claims down the road.
next new bike, eff the 1k service. I'll do it myself.

Hey neighbor!!! Lol
