Ain't that the truth about harley cost. I was lucky enough to find a local seller via craiglist that was selling the sissybar backrest and the touring passenger seat for my deluxe for $150 for both. Needless to say I swooped in quick. His deluxe was stolen and was selling parts he had in the garage. But the quick detachable hardware parts were attached to the bike. Not to hijack the thread but does anyone know if they sell just the hardware parts alone or possibly part #'s?
Yes they do sell hardware separately, I think they call it the QD bracket or something, seen it in the catalog. Call your local dealer to get part numbers or maybe you can find it online.
If U think HD stuff is $$$. try buying some Rolland Sands stuff.
Honestly, Every thing I've bought off the wall from our dealer has fit perfectly and now after 6yrs, all it still looks new and works great. IMO the HD stuff is hard to beat overall.
With a small budget I'd rather buy good stuff Used, rather than buy new cheap stuff.
Man I know Harley parts can be pricy but good lord. I wen to my local Harley dealer and inquired about a passanger seat back for my 2006 softail deluxe. I want a quick detachable back rest so my wife can ride along as she says she feels like she is sliding off the back of the bike. Just for the back rest and all the monting hardware 360.00 and this is not even installed. Now I know stuff cost what it cost but this blew my mind, my problem I know.
I eventually want to have quick release hard bags and a tour pac along with the back rest and I also desire to have a bat wind fairing. I am on a fixed income and disabled so money is tight. My bike only has a little under 6 thousand miles on it. I considered trading for a used road glide but I just put new tires and a new HD battery and battery tender on the thing and my harley dealer treats me really bad on a tradein. My bike looks and rides like new.
I like riding around with the bike naked like the way it is, but it would be nice to have bags ect and take a long ride down to the keys on day. does anyone have a more cost efficent idea or parts for me. I am open to all ideas. If I could get a fair price for my bike I would trade but to date according to the dealer my bike is not in demand and low ***** me on my trade and jacks up the price on his used bike. I have looked around and its pretty much the same deal every where. I love my bike I just can't afford the steep harley prices. Hell I would even consider used stuff if it was priced fair.
Thanks in advance
kindly
flpete
P.S
I know it sounds like I am whining but I'm really not, sorry
Yep. The price we pay for Harley's. Nothing.... and I mean Nothing beats the cost of the little o rings that you have to buy once in a while for the drain plugs.
1 fuggin dollar for a little tiny O ring. What a joke. I usually shop around for those O ring kits in the hardware stores.
If you like riding with it stripped down yet you need stuff for your wife to ride you are pretty much stuck with the quick detach stuff. I have gotten a few things off of Craigslist for pennies on the dollar. Here is an option most never consider and that is calling around insurance companies or junk yards for bikes that have been wrecked. It's a long shot but I have seen it work in the past for a few guys and they got what they were looking for, for next to nothing.
I know for me it is worth the money. I love riding with the wife and would never "not" have a sissy bar. I feel your pain though. I added floorboards for her to the tune of 250.00 + 80.00 for the Willie G covers. I think it just goes along with owning a Harley.
Gee's if that's your wife in your avatar I'll buy her a sissy bar and a house and a...................the hell with it, I'll keep mine and save some cash.
