Smile Passanger back rest and more

Man I know Harley parts can be pricy but good lord. I wen to my local Harley dealer and inquired about a passanger seat back for my 2006 softail deluxe. I want a quick detachable back rest so my wife can ride along as she says she feels like she is sliding off the back of the bike. Just for the back rest and all the monting hardware 360.00 and this is not even installed. Now I know stuff cost what it cost but this blew my mind, my problem I know.
I eventually want to have quick release hard bags and a tour pac along with the back rest and I also desire to have a bat wind fairing. I am on a fixed income and disabled so money is tight. My bike only has a little under 6 thousand miles on it. I considered trading for a used road glide but I just put new tires and a new HD battery and battery tender on the thing and my harley dealer treats me really bad on a tradein. My bike looks and rides like new.
I like riding around with the bike naked like the way it is, but it would be nice to have bags ect and take a long ride down to the keys on day. does anyone have a more cost efficent idea or parts for me. I am open to all ideas. If I could get a fair price for my bike I would trade but to date according to the dealer my bike is not in demand and low ***** me on my trade and jacks up the price on his used bike. I have looked around and its pretty much the same deal every where. I love my bike I just can't afford the steep harley prices. Hell I would even consider used stuff if it was priced fair.
Thanks in advance
kindly
flpete

P.S
I know it sounds like I am whining but I'm really not, sorry

I know for me it is worth the money. I love riding with the wife and would never "not" have a sissy bar. I feel your pain though. I added floorboards for her to the tune of 250.00 + 80.00 for the Willie G covers. I think it just goes along with owning a Harley.

I have a Deluxe also and purchased the quick release hardware and backrest from the dealer. I agree it's costly but It fits the bike styling and goes on and off easily for my wife. Even got the hardware caps to cover the pegs when not in use.

The tourpack often replaces the passenger "backrest"... depending on the model.

I know how you feel. I saved a bunch of dough by doing the install myself (it's incredibly easy) and buying the detachable sissybar, hardware and backrest pad as single unit slightly used off of ebay for under $200 shipped. Shop around - it pays off. Here's an example.

Oh and my GF is super happy with the setup.

Watch ebay.. Deals pop up from time to time..
Also search different ways. Sometimes people list things weird and not maybe people will see it

Ebay or Craigslist. People do sell the parts off when they sell their bikes to recoup some of the costs. I know the tourpak is way better than a sissy bar backrest, maybe you should invest in that... it's like touring first class... or as first class as it gets on the bike.

if you are going to add batwing, tour pack, and saddlebags you should try and sell your bike first and take the money and buy a touring bike for what you get out of it. Buying all the add ons will cost much more than the 350 dollar backrest

That is exactly what I ended up doing.

I had a Softail Heritage Classic with the windshield, soft bags, and nothing else.

I was going to add a stereo system, sissy bar backrest and pad, and a back pad for myself, along with changing out the seat to something more comfortable. But I know I will never have the dual discs upfront or air ride suspension. Then I thought... why not just get a touring bike instead and have it all ready to go as is? So I did... and loving it.

I've done all I'm going to do...pipes, AC, one bag...because anything else would just be adding on crap I don't need. Besides, I can't think of anything else I'd add to it, that's not an arm and a leg. It's real easy to stop when you don't have money to burn.
