Default Slim-perfect styling

This is going to offend some good people but please just consider for the sake of argument.
Just because you can doesn't mean you should has never been more true.

Those firestones I've noticed on a couple new softails are the worst possible tire you could put on your nice new expensive Harley Davidson. I say that cuz I have 3 sets of them on old cobbled together bobbers, not a 103ci HD. I can say from experience they handle like garbage, track poorly, wear abnormally fast & cost a fortune, but yeah, they look the part, right?? I know you people are going for the "old school" (most overused BS term ever) look and you have a ton of unique bolt ons you don't see everyone doing, but , NO.

Most of these new bikes obviously are having had a lot of work done and there are certainly
some cool parts going on many of them but why is everyone completely changing an amazing looking new Slim?

Couldn't they get an older deuce, or night train, hell even a FB to mod into these completely odd "custom" "make it your own" creations?

Sure you'll say, "well it's already blacked out" or " I wanted a new bike not an old one" but seriously, why buy a particularly wonderfully styled motorcycle and then completely throw caution & your wallet to the wind and say, lets make it something it's not?
There's one in last months cycle source magazine that was made into a flat tracker type thing! Hated it. Why, why, why.

The slim looks that way cuz it's styled right. It's not meant to have a 23. It's not meant to have a 200. It's not meant to have 18" carlini's or wtf they're called. It's perfect right outta the box. Sure, put all that on and be praised by all those who haven't the cash, skills, or the ***** to do it themselves. Do it because you want something "a little different", well don't we all?
Truth be told, the slim is the first bike in years where I thought they "got it right", with the hollywood bars, tuck n roll seat, 16" front & rear etc...

Okay, sure, add pipes and an AC, but Firestones? Really? REALLY? Leave that to the hipsters and the custom jap bobber scene. The mods some have chosen works well with old vintage iron, shovels, pans, etc, and the asian harley builders have exploited this to death. That's where all those classic bikes are ending up anyway (such a shame) and I'm not even gonna get into why, that's another rant.

And yep, it's your money, and I'll tell you how you should be spending it!
Not really, but "if it makes you happy...it can't be that bad" Actually, come to think of it, I hate Cheryl Crow too.

There are some really fine builds going on here and last I heard it's still a free country and that's just another 2 cents down the drain.

I'm probably gonna get a slim next year, I love the look of it and probably won't change much(exhaust, air cleaner, simple necessary things) bike is right on the money for me. I think it looks stupid with a 200 tire on it.......

Wow. Feel better, Nomad?

I agree with you mostly, actually. I considered the repro "Firestones" but just thought they would hurt the ride of my bike.

That said, you pretty much discounted every possible mod you could do the Slim. haha. They look beautiful stock, but what's wrong with a little extra black if that's what you dig? Different seat if it helps your ride? Absolutely.

I think apes are kinda a cliche on most bikes these days. But if you feel most comfortable in that riding position, power to you.

200s and 23s? Well, let's just say, not what I'd do to my Slim. But that's kinda the point. It's someone else's Slim and they can do what they like to it. Though I do think their wallets we be better served if they bought a bike in that style to start with.

Oh well. No biggie. If all our Harleys looked the same, they wouldn't be Harleys.

Well your going to hate this. I love it though. I bought my bike for the platform. I guess I can think outside of the box & I'm not stuck with a bike that Harley thought would appeal to the mass.

I think the Slim is the first bike in quite some time where they really nailed the styling. I'm not much of a wide tire guy (I prefer handling over trends) and I feel the Slim and the Blackline before it were two exceptional examples of what can be done without getting fatter or longer or both. The two bikes are radically different in the way they handle and feel, but both need VERY little customization. Most of the stuff I've seen done to both of these bikes detract from the original... sure, it's just my opinion, but I liked what I saw right on the showroom floor!

How dare you think for yourself and build something you like. WTF were you thinking! Over the weekend please strip the bike back down, replace the stock parts, put your tank badges back on and get back in line!!

I think most Softails look pretty good right out of the box. But, you're right, the factory got the Slim right. If you like that style to begin with, you could ride it completely stock and it would be a great looking ride. Then again, Not2slim's bike is well done.

It looks good.
To the owner it looks awesome, and to many others, it sets a new standard maybe... Bars are gangsta as **** and it's murdered out appropriately for 2013 trends. 23's are the new 21's and the satisfaction of internally wiring your own bars is like nothing else.
You did good Son.
In the old days you had to wait for a cloud that looked like **** just so you could **********, now I can get turned on by just pixels alone. Gotta love this interwebs right?
Actually, because of the internet, you don't actually have to walk a whole mile in someone's shoes to judge them.
Some folks like to take whatever chance they get to post pics of the same pic in as many different threads as possible to get all the oooh's and ahhh's. Pretty sure there's enough **** threads to support model specifics, blacked out bettys, and your old man's chrome whored queen. But whatever, I guess when you drop that kinda serious mod dough it should come with a little bit of online justification from internet "brothers" confirming the bank was well spent.
And hey Facebook, just notify me when everyone is dead, I'll "like" that.

Checked my work email this morning & I sure as **** won't ever do that again. Just set my email to filter out promotions from Amazon & anything with an "HDforums" in it.

My CB handle is "White Cheddar" if you guys want to continue this over there.

I agree the Slim looks great out of the box and that's the main reason I bought mine. Mine is going to stay as is except for a better seat.
