Slim-perfect styling
Couldn't they get an older deuce, or night train, hell even a FB to mod into these completely odd "custom" "make it your own" creations?
Sure you'll say, "well it's already blacked out" or " I wanted a new bike not an old one" but seriously, why buy a particularly wonderfully styled motorcycle and then completely throw caution & your wallet to the wind and say, lets make it something it's not?
There's one in last months cycle source magazine that was made into a flat tracker type thing! Hated it. Why, why, why.
The slim looks that way cuz it's styled right. It's not meant to have a 23. It's not meant to have a 200. It's not meant to have 18" carlini's or wtf they're called. It's perfect right outta the box. Sure, put all that on and be praised by all those who haven't the cash, skills, or the ***** to do it themselves. Do it because you want something "a little different", well don't we all?
Truth be told, the slim is the first bike in years where I thought they "got it right", with the hollywood bars, tuck n roll seat, 16" front & rear etc...
Okay, sure, add pipes and an AC, but Firestones? Really? REALLY? Leave that to the hipsters and the custom jap bobber scene. The mods some have chosen works well with old vintage iron, shovels, pans, etc, and the asian harley builders have exploited this to death. That's where all those classic bikes are ending up anyway (such a shame) and I'm not even gonna get into why, that's another rant.

"make it something it's not" : Isn't that what "making it your own" is in the first place?
The slim looks styled right, yes, and so does the FB, and the heritage, and everything else. They look right, and sell right, and people mod them and make them look better in THEIR opinion, just like this thread is your opinion.
Glad we have your permission for the pipes and AC at least... i guess...
( i don't have a slim btw but would be interested in what mods you allow for other bikes, just in case )
I get what you are saying, I don't personally like them that much either, just find it interesting you decided to dedicate an entire new thread to what you don't like about others bikes
LMAO - coming from the guy that started a 166 post thread titled --
"Do other people's mods ever get your goat?" https://www.hdforums.com/forum/gener...your-goat.html
Sorry - I had to call you on this one

Okay, I hear you all, and everyone is right with whatever opinion you support.
Truth be told, I LOVE mods on every bike going EXCEPT the Slim. Perhaps I shoulda searched out SoCalSoftailSlim's thread and complained there, but really, I'm am singling out the slim.
Let me explain:
Reason being, is I love it so goddamned much. Obviously. The bike just made me fall in love with an extraordinary piece of beautiful machinery like it was designed & built just for me. And I didn't have to "make it my own" cuz it already was.
Okay so I did go with a stage 1, but when I'm talking about changing the slim, I mean mods that completely change the appearance of the bike. As in, the lines and profile. Apes, fat wheels, big wheels, inferior firestones, and cluttered up accessories that detract from it's simple beauty. Why buy this bike if your gonna do all that?? That what night trains are there for, and your buddys bike down the street that he's selling cuz he's buying the Street Glide to take to Sturgis this year, and the hundreds and hundreds of low mile discounted softails that are for sale every day. That's how I really feel! LOL.
Having said that, let me say this. I have tons of bikes over the years and never ever thought I'd want a new one until that perfect softail came out 2012.I'm biased yes, I flipped bikes till I had the cash to buy her off the showroom and I don't want anything else.
Dude, your slim looks great, no matter what you do to it cuz its a great package to have, whichever way you go.
Except for that flat tracker slim on fat spoked 23's in the Source, that's just the wrong direction. It's like seeing what the most expensive parts you can find are, putting them together and trying to figure out how to make it so it looks like it all works. Know what? Doesn't always work. But good on em for trying...Most Joe's are gonna look at it and go Woaaahhh! But usually, all they see is crazy priced, bling wheels and chrome swing arms that cost more than the car they drive and don't see all the ways it doesn't work. But sure has purdy parts.
But then again, hey, I'm an EXPERT, just like everyone else!

Every Harley sold is a starter kit. If you dont customize your bike, then in my opinion you have no imagination. There is no perfect bike from the dealer. Stock bikes run hot and sound like sewing machines.

Well I can honestly say, that I have not spent $10,000 in accessories on my bike. My bike is a kind of a budget build.I call it the bike that eBay built. I'll even break down the price tags. We all know the price of the parts, but here you go. $1400 for the Fat Spokes, $1200 Shotgun, $350 for the Carlini Menace apes, exhaust $300, Woods cams $300, extended cables $225, rear fender $150, $200 power commander, $50 grips and $200 in powdercoat. Now here comes the cool part. I have sold off a lot of my stock parts for well over grand give or take a few bucks. I have saved a ton of cash doing every single bit of labor in my garage, all by myself. This bike is not built to ride to the bar. I ride it everyday to and from work, store & so on. I put a 1000 miles a month on this bike and enjoy every minute of it. I additionally enjoy the time I have spent in the garage by myself turned the sacred Slim into something that no one else has. At least not on a Slim platform.
I have to say that when I bought the bike, I never had plans of changing it so dramatically. I intended on lowering the bike and slapping white walls on it. Then I was bite by the aftermarket bug & this is what I ended up with. I did stick with the thin rear wheel though, so ill still call it a Slim.
