Unhappy pulley cover

So I was cleaning my bike the other day and on my chrome pulley cover I noticed a light scratch that runs around the outer part of the chrome pulley cover. So thought maybe a rock or it had come in contact with my swing arm. So i jacked the bike up and no sign of rock. I have a question for 2006 fxsti owners particularly with a chrome rear pulley cover, how much space is there between pulley and the bracket they is welded to swing arm that the upper and lower belt guard fasten to. Mine is not touching but its tight. I hadn't noticed an problems while riding. Also I never actually paid attention to this clearance before because I've never had any reason to. Hopefully This is normal.
