So I recently bought a set of Samson Hell Bound pipes off ebay. Just got them today and the chrome isn't the best and there are machining teeth grooves in the actual pipes.
Has anyone else experienced this with Samson exhausts? Oh and the heat shield for the front cylinder pipe doesn't properly match up to the part where the pipe expands at the tip...
Just wondering if Samson isn't reliable or I somehow got cheap knock-offs.
Well I dont really care about the chrome since I plan to have it stripped and black ceramic-coated. Im more concerned with the machining quality. They installed nicely, will fire it up tomorrow morning and see how it sounds and make sure there are no leaks (tips at cylinder seemed a bit off). Maybe I'm just used to the heavy weight and really thick gauge steel of Vance pipes that these seem "too light".
Everyone I know who has had Samson pipes has had the same issues, especially with poor, peeling, bubbling chrome.
I find this very unusual. Most of us on this forum who have Samson pipes are very pleased with the quality, looks and sound.
Samson is not going to put out an inferior product. It is not to say that an occasional flaw won't occur. It happens. Their quality control is excellent.
I am not saying that V&H isn't a quality product as well.
+1 on the quality of Samson's product. Their chrome is FLAWLESS!
I don't think I've ever heard of anyone having a problem with the quality of their pipes. Maybe it's just an issue of buying them used, you never know what happened to them with the previous owner.
Yeah I mean the used thing is part of it. They were a display piece, never installed or run through. As long as they sound beefy and hold up to the beating of daily use, I'm fine with them.
Soooo they're pretty much perfect in the sound department. And the fit is perfect (no leaks). Now just to have the chrome stripped and get black ceramic coat.
