As others have said, the stock seat on my 08 Heritage was awesome. I did however have MCC (Mean City Cycles) modify it some last year because I felt like the seat was loosing it's comfort.. Most HD Dealers now have a demo program, go try out those seats and see if you find anything that you like. Otherwise, take a look on EBay & see if you can find an OEM seat from a Heritage or a Deluxe.

I have tried several seats on my '08 Fatboy. I like the position of my stock seat but it was killing my hip so I started looking.

The first was the Sundowner. It felt like I was continually sliding towards the tank, some say it is like humping the tank (their words). Next up was the HD Signature seat. Pushed my WAY too far forward. Lastly was the Mustang Wind Solo - Bingo. Narrower front relieved my hip pain. Not cheap, but none of the good seats are.

For me, I've owned nine diff bikes and the best seat I've ever had including two customs build seats is the Stock Heritage seat. If this one ever needs replaced, it will be with another stock one.

I had my stock seat reworked. I love the look but the stocker had my tailbone constantly hurting. I wanted to avoid just that which I read here on this thread, going through multiple seats before finding the right one. This may have been a little more expensive but it now fits like a glove, tailbone pain is gone plus it's now finished to match the colors of my bike. I had 1 1/2" of old foam removed and replaced with 1" of the gelfoam. I also had the padding pushed back as far as I could go and that ended the "tank humping". I also agree, 1 popular seat for everyone else might not work as well for you. It's like pick, point, buy and hope for the best. I'm 56, 5'10", 225.

I just switched from a Corbin Gunfighter 2-up to a Danny Gray buttcrack solo. Honestly the Corbin was AMAZING, but I wanted a solo. The Corbin sits you back pretty well and gives good lower back support, while still hugging the fender nicely so it isn't too intrusive to the image of the bike. The padding is great and its a solid 12" wide so it cradles really well.

Sundowner was comfortable for me, but no back rest so it's gone. The signature seat... that is the worst seat ever built since the earth was created. I now run the mustang wide solo with backrest. It is the best one yet for me, but I'm still looking, it sits me high and forward a bit. Not the best for a big guy. I was told this seat cann't be modified like most of them. My bike is a phatboy.. the stock seat, a real killer on the hips/back.

Just curious on what was wrong with the signature seat?

It shoves you forward toward the tank, the nose of the seat is way to narrow, every time I use it to let the wife tag along my thighs get burned bad, after bout 30 minutes my nads feel like they are in a vice, if I make it to half hour, my hips/butt/back hurts real bad. It is just a bad design. A friend of mine bought one for his heritage before I could warn him.... he put 200 miles on it and threw it in the dumpster.... It does sit you down low in the bike like a good seat should, but that's not worth the damn pain it inflicts. For the wife, she loves riding on it behind me, extremly comfortable for her. Anyone in my area interested in one, I would gladly let you use the seat to stop you from wasting $$ on it.

Oh wait, no, it's an awesome seat! It's for sale.

Well thanks for all the replies fine people I have purchased a new/used seat with pillion . My *** is in heaven after installing a Mustang Solo Vintage with Pillion. I am definitely back off tank and higher on the bike. Absolute total comfort compared to the saddleman . My legs are no longer cramped, the heat from engine is less, the sound of engine seems better from the new postion and the bike seems to handle better !!!!! Hard to believe the difference to be honest with you.
And after you see the pic i'd like to think most would agree it suits the bike better !
safe riding everyone.
