Sorry Final but I will look cool with NO windshield!! If I had a bagger I would be all about a short windshield but with a Train I will just have to suffer I guess
It's a hard decision, and Dave, you have one fine looking Standard. I was thinking exactly like you guys, I swear there was no way a windshield was ever going to find it's way onto my bike.
But I bet that one day soon, you'll discover that a clear 14x14 Windvest will not only add to the sporty look of your ride, but you will ride even more because of the added comfort.
All you'll need is about 20 minutes with one...
I have an 03 Train with HD Detachable Smoked windshield. 58341-96. I put it on when I was still running the original painted sheet metal. The thing that I liked about it when I put it on is that it comes down in front of the paint on the tanks and offers some extra protection against stones and pebbles and other road crap.
I'm very happy with a windshield and I always use it on the highways. I just can't believe it took me 30 years to finally get one.
Oh, one more thing.... I've already permanently crippled two birds with it. It's paid for itself.

Thanks George, and likewise. I actually have pics of your bike on my hard drive that I used to get some ideas. I didnât implement everything I was considering when I downloaded them, but you got me thinking long and hard about a few things.
Anyway, in the last 20 years, I have ridden with and without a windshield. Iâll admit spring and fall can get a bit nippy. Hell, up here in Minnesota, so can the summer at times! Thereâs really no rationale behind my decision, other than the fact my bike is as much an art form to me as it is fun to ride. Will I ever change my mind and slap a windshield on there? Maybe; but not in the foreseeable future.

I always was old school too. My wife has been doing alot of riding with me, so she requested the windshield. I just put it on last night, so I don't know how effective it really is. But will find out Saturday morning when we head to Daytona from Tampa.... I'm sure it will help. Everybody in my Chapter has a windshield, so there must be something to it.
Sorry for digging up old bones but I thought I would add this blasphemous comment. My 06 night train was killing me as I sat up straight and the windblast would hit me in the chest and catch my helmet trying to lift it off my head (I usually cruise around 70-75 mph). I looked and looked for a small windscreen or windshield I could use that wouldn't look like sh*t. I finally settled for a windscreen off of a Suzuki M109. The screen is dark smoke and very sleek. The opening around the headlight is too big so I am looking to put a dual headlight setup on the front. But besides that I like it.... not as great as a naked NT but better than that WIND. Here a pic of my bike without the windscreen. I will post a pic with the windscreen tomorrow. Here are a couple of pics with the shield.
i hate the look, but got one because it does make a world of difference, on the two times that I have used in the past year and half. Usually early in the a.m. when I was riding straight highway an hour away for work. I got the HD detachable for $100 off a guy that sold his NT so I got a deal.
The buffeting is pretty damn bad for me though, I am tall, and it hits my head hard. Without a helmet, a lot better! I dont know what to do now, sell it or just keep it for once in awhile and wear a full face with it for the 5 hour trip to Laconia next year.
