The Ugly Contraption solution to the QD Windsheild buffeting problems.
OK folks.
So for those of us FX front guys (and some FL'ers) who use the QD windshield that is notorious for the buffeting underneath .
It took me sometime to figure out if I can resolve this with the the 'fangs' not being an option.
There was a member here to did something that resembled the fangs attached to the shield so I figured this is what I will do for a proof of concept .
1 - Bring two metal brackets from home depot (14" long).
2 - While at Home Depot grab two Plexi sheets (14"x15")
3 - some small bolts and nylon lock (3/8 if you can find or I used Metric small bolts and nuts).
4 - Drill a few holes to attach the bracket to plexiglass
5 - Cut the plexi Glass a bit .
6 - Use Washers (3/8 washers) as I assumed the wind pressure will be high at speed.
7 - loosen the lower bolts of the shield brackets, attach the nameless ugly contraption using new bolts and nylont nuts.
voila ..

Second Step .. Test New setup for the QD ability (yes it does attach and quick detach.
Finally Test ride
After 7 hours of riding in one day (10 days ago) I can confirm this reduced the buffeting from the below almost completely.
Interestingly enough, eliminating the bottom buffeting now emphasis a new buffeting that comes from the shoulder level almost a minor one I would say 25% of the force of the original buffeting but that was so easy to handle compared to the really annoying under buffeting.
This performed fantasticly and it looks FUGLY .
Now that this concept proved successful I will try to trim the panels slightly to reach the 'minimum' design I can reach.
Next Steps
- Paint brackets black to match rest of Shield brackets.
- Replace my flimsy HomeDepot Cheappo plexy glass with maybe some stock fangs from Harley or National Cycle and attach to the Brackets.
- Enjoy the Ugly ride on long trips and keep the QD out of the way for anything that does not require more than 3 hours on the highways.
I hope you guys found that useful it was quite easy actually all in all less than a couple of hours of a rainy day including the shopping time at Home Depot

Dude, your Avatar is distracting
So like i said, I wanted my QD ability and comfort when I am spending more than 3 hours on the highway, I rarely do that and usually do it when visiting a different city like Montreal or Ottawa for a couple of days.
So I put the 'fugliness' and enjoy the 4-6 hour ride on highway
Arrive at hotel
in 5 minutes fugliness is in hotel room and I am rolling in style
The buffeting was super annoying really on the highway. I am hoping with my new bars and fork modifications the bike will be really comfortable for few long day rides in a row.
