Default Drilling Lower triple tree

Trying to drill the lower triple tree on my FXCWC to mount my turn signals on the triple tree.
Has anyone drilled their triple tree on their bike?
Is it considered safe?
Is there any downside to it?
Should I drill from top down or bottom up?
Do I need to remove fender & wheel or should I just cover them up?

My guess is Russ and the boys drilled that lower tree while it was off and the headlight wasn't in the way. I would cover the tire and fender. How do you plan on getting a drill and tap & dye in there? Unless you drill all the way through and put a lock nut on the bottom. Keep us updated!!

no i haven't done it, but on a fatboy the lower tree is hidden so i really can't do it..sorry..

you may be weakening the tree a little bit, so safety is questionable
downside ^^^

I would probably drill from the top down if i were to do it

And really, to ensure you do it propery, i'd actually go through the labor of removing the tree from the bike.. which means removing the tire, fender, forks, then disassembling the entire neck housing.. that way you can lay the tree flat on something, rather than try to drill it on the rake angle that it's on now.. but that's just my two cents..

This is something my dad has on his Nightrain.. the whole setup is from headwinds, it's not the same as what you want, but it saves on drilling stuff out..

oh, should also mention that in the daylight, even with LED bulbs, you can't see the turn signals flashing worth a damn being that close to the headlight. just fyi

I agree with wiseguy. As nice as your bike is do it right the first time. Remove the lower tree to drill and tap it. Don't take chances on doing a shoddy job or scratching something. JMO.
