If its taking that long for the light to come on you may have another issue either adding to or causing an unintentional battery problem.
I would still check the charging to make sure its working properly.
But keep the meter handy and the next time the light comes on, recheck it to see if things have changed.
My guess is that you may find its not putting out the right voltage out either because it has a poor connection to the regulator or its going bad on you.
It might also be a bad connection to the alternator circuit causing it not to charge once its been vibrated a while or it gets hot.
Good Luck and let us know what you eventually find out.
Might help out the next poor SOB who's ripping his hair out trying to figure it out.
went for an hour scoot on Holiday Monday with no issues until on the way home when "bus er." code appeared and all gauge lights came on again. So I pulled over shut the bike off for 1 minute started it back up and presto no issues what so ever for 30 minute ride home. Go figure !My buddy says check your cables going into speedo .
will keep you posted.
I believe I have found the culprit. I had recently purchased a new mustang seat and ever since then have had the electrical issue. So I noticed a harness of wiring that was situated a bit further out from under the seat that didn't quite seem right. The wires looked squashed and not where they should have been. I re taped them with electrical tape and stuffed them back inwards under the seat more. I believe that with the new seat has a different circumference and in turn was sitting ontop the harness.
Went for a long scoot tonight with no issues. I will keep my fingers crossed and keep an eye on it.
Thx for all the help.

Interesting. Just had an issue where my speedo needle would drop to zero and my odometer window would go blank. At the same time my brake lights wouldn't brighten nor would the turn signals blink. Turns out I was either pinching the bundle of wires going into the console (which i could pull side to side and recreated the issue) or had a loose connection in there. Reseated the bundle running in under the console and put dielectric grease on all those connectors and problem solved. Amazing what electrical probs will do.
Glad you found (we all hope) the problem.
If it really does turn out to be the problem I would take the tape off and carefully inspect the wires.
Odds are that one or two may have the insulation spit or broken through.
In that case a little liquid tape or even nail polish should give it a little bit more protection than the tape from water getting in to corrode the wires.
Believe me, if you think things got a bit strange from a pinched wire.
You ain't seen nothin until you see what kind of strange if not outright bizarre things a corroded wire can do to a circuit.
Not to mention trying to find the bad wire even if you KNOW its the problem is a real SOB.
After you paint the wires, out the tape back on and bundle it with a zip tie or two in where it can't be squashed again and you should be good for a long time.
I have been having a related issue or I think it is related.
I have a 2011 Deluxe and recently my speedo indicator lights have been random king shutting off at speed. Like if I am in 6 gear the 6 shuts off. It will stay off for a few minutes and when it comes back on the security light comes on with it for a second. One time it happened at dusk after the speedo backlights came on and it shut those off too. It doesn't cause the window to turn off or the speed needle to stop working just the indicator lights. First happened two months ago during a rainstorm when hazards wouldn't come on. Had Harley look at it during a maintenance appointment. All they said was they couldn't replicate it. Yesterday it did it about 10 times where the 6 speed indicator turned off for a few minutes. I am assuming it is wiring into the speedo. My husband is a bus/heavy truck master mechanic and was looking at the wiring diagrams from my service manual yesterday and will look at the bike today. I will pass on what have been written about other folks having issues with their electrical into their speedo.
Have him check the connections at the speedo (did you have to take it off to change the bezel to the Diamond trim ring?) as it might not be completely seated.
Double check to make sure the electrical connector on the transmission is securely installed.
And put some dielectric grease in all the connectors to waterproof them, you did say it all started after you rode in the rain, right?

Thank you I will. The diamond ice thing is a stick on so no but it has been taken off when I first got the bike almost 2 years ago to wire my GPS and radio by a shop. GPS is wired into ignition but didn't have issues till July. It did start in a horrid rainstorm or at least that is when I noticed it. I ride in the rain a lot but started on a multi day trip to multi states in July. Always helps him to know where it has gone wrong before since we don't have a computer to check the codes at home. Plus he is used to working on large buses vs Harley's. and frankly like most us the last thing he wants to do on his day off is work on another electrical problem on an engine since being a transit bus mechanic it is what he spends all week on. But since we already tried the dealership since it is under warranty and they were no help he would rather fix it himself since he knows he is a good mechanic ( and likely techs in a harley shop are not paid well so likely only have a few years under their belts) I will pass on the things to check.
I'm seem to have all these issues right now with my bike. The odometer shutting on and off,the abs light, check engine light, red security light all on. I had it at the dealership for about a week now.
They replaced the ECU and now they are saying the ABS computer is not responding and have to order one. prior to that I check all the connection and they looked good. The bike still under warranty, so it is up to them to figured this one out.
