Been looking at this forum for awhile and this is my first post.
Searched around but did not find a thread that quite resembled my problem so here I go.
My 2006 fatboy speedo is not working, About 2 months ago it started bouncing around a little then nothing, it stays at zero. The bike starts and runs perfect, signal cancelation works, and the odometer is still working.
Any ideas out there?
Since everything else is working, then the ECM is most likely still receiving a good signal from the speed sensor. I would check all the connections at the back of the speedo then trace back the wiring to the ECM and make sure all those connections are good as well. Look for any chaffed wires and check that all the grounds are solid. Might be able to remove the speedo and have the dealer or an Indy check it to see if its functional. Good luck, and be sure to post when you've got it fixed so the thread gets some closure!
Mine did the exact same thing a year ago ended up having to buy a new speedo.
Wasn't speed sensor, or the battery or the numerous other suggestions I got on the forms it was a bad speedo. Not cheap for a new one
Thanks,
I'm going out of town till next week so after that I will check all the wiring.
Really just wanted some collaboration that it wasn't the speed sensor since everything else was working.

Stock ECM?
Borrow a speedo from a buddy with the same era and series of bike and make sure that it's the speedo before you buy one.
Sorry it took so long but the bike was running so I waited till the weather turned cold on me to resolve this issue.
I took the bike into the local dealer and they tested it on the bike and the speedo was definitely bad. Only problem was the $300 plus price tag.
Looked around and found a used one for $75 + shipping. Installed tonight and she works great.
Now my bike has 24k miles on it and the new (used) odometer has 18K.
Is there anyway to change the odometer reading???

The dealer is the only person that can do it for a stock ECM. I don't know about others. I'm thinking the speedo used to have to go to the factory... but I'm not sure. Most states its illegal to fiddle with Odometer mileage so you probably have to have it done.
