Update.....

I bought a new Stud Plate, Part # 51803-07. Beast didn't have any problems getting the old bolts out of the plate, they are just pressed into the plate, not welded in.

Put one end in the vice, with threads looking up, take small ball peen hammer and give it a couple whacks...the screw will fall out.

Do the same to the other end.

Get two 1/4" x 1.25" bolts. He had some hex head bolts at the job. Replace the bolts on each end, tack weld the back to secure them. He sprayed a bit of black primer on the welds.

Voila! The chrome screw heads fit perfectly. Now I just have to figure out a way to replace the old one!

Hope this helps someone else with the same problem.

No need to remove the fender or the rear tire , just jack the bike up and slip your hand between the fender and the tire. Should take 5 min at most unless you have freakishly large hands !

Thats a great solution. I also bought a new stud plate, mine is the poart number I referenced in my earlier post. It has the channel for the rear light wires in it, I see yours does not, have you looked at your old one to make sure it is the same?

I wondered about that channel thing. When I ordered this part, I didn't have the part # you referenced, just told the parts guy what I needed and he looked it up. It's a simple fix so if I need the other one I'll get it.

I was hesitant to put it in a vise but after your post, I locked mine ion and presto, out came the studs. I'll take them to a friend tomorrow and have him tac weld the new bolts and then try this out. THANKS AGAIN!!
Here's the info on the part I used:
59174-99. Same used on touring bikes and softails since 99. If you put your bike on a jack and get the pressure off the rear wheel and shocks you can get a hand between the fender and the wheel (on a softail) and get the part out.
