You'll hear mainly Avons and Metzelers. But for me, I like Dunlops.
People judge handling characteristics going from a flat bottomed, worn out set of tires, directly to something fully arched and brand new, and that's whystock tiresget hosed. Probably the stickiest tire out there that still gets good mileage.
New D407 read and Elite 3 for the front coming for me.

I use the stock, recommended Dunlop tires on all my Harley's and don't see any reason to go with anything else.
I'm sure there are other makes that might have a softer compound, some with a harder compound, etc., but for a good long lasting tire that works in all weather conditions the Dunlop's are hard to beat.
I ride my bikes year round, in all conditions, and have been more than satisified with the recommended Dunlop's...
I just mut on Avon's, going from the Dunlaps. I like the Avon's better. Will see as they get older with more mileage on them. But right now I like them
Like mentioned earlier in this thread, a new set of tires (of any make) is going to handle and perform better than a old, worn tires (of any make).
The only fair tire comparison would be to take a new set of 'Brand X' tires, run them through a controlled set of tests, and then mount a new set of 'Brand Y' tires and do the same.
I ran the Dunlops for 30 years and didn't realize how much they suck ,till i rode my buddies FXST with Metzlers on it. I will be getting metzlers for this summer. The comparison to lops is not even close!

What difference did you notice between the tires?
Years ago on a Yamaha tourer I switched to Avons and it was a big difference. It was like adding power steering. The bike leaned over so much quicker when cornering. With the old tires, don't remember what brand they were, I had to work a lot harder to lean the bike over. I didn't realize how much effort I was putting into it until I switched to the Avons.

The Metzlers steer much easier at speed and stick on tight turns with the skinny 21" front wheel. I went over a bridge metal grid and the metzlers didn"t even begin to track in the groves, My lops always do. Metzlers feel safer to me. I don't know what the milage will be, and don't care. The safe thing will be worth it to me.
