I just took my '05 annv. Fatboy in to an indepenant shop for a new rear tire. The bike only has 6000 miles on it. The rear axle was welded from heat to the bearings, the heat caused the rotor to warp. The wrench said it appeared that the factory didn't lube the axle, and that caused the heat related damage. This is the first time the rear has been apart so I can't blame it on prior service and the belt was adjusted properly. Anyone else run into this problem?????????
..yeah..seen it a coupla times..00 WG and 02 FB..had to beat axle out of FB with a sledge..new bearings, axle and PIA of labor.. appeared to not have anything on axle but a nice layer of metal colored gum/corrosion.

Damn I had same model, good thing it did not lock up on you while flying down highway to catch bagger babe, or bag lady, any way she can blow all of us away, but are they going to fix it? do you still have warrenty? GOOD LUCK
If the factory failed to lube something, it had to be the factory that made the bearing. The 00 and up, are sealed bearings and don't need to be lubed. I've been told, never use a pressure washer around the bearings, and to be carefull with the hose. Too much directwater, especially under pressure, can wash out the bearings.
Thanks for the replies. I've never pressure washed it, yeah, I'm really glad it didn't lock up on me while on the highway ( I tend to ride above the speed limit ) and I already had it fixed to the tune of $300 bucks. (My wrench is a true Bro) I'll be contacting the stealership tomorrow and then maybe the factory depending on the response
I've never used a pressure washer either, but when using the gardenhose around the bearings, I have it on the fine spray (mist) setting, not the heavy stream.
Hey cougar mike, I was just reading the manual and found that overtorqing the the wheel can cause bearing failure. More than 65 ftlbs is bad news on the rear axle nut. That would probably make more sense than missing lube.
I just installed a set of pm's on my 07 nighttrain. The axle was quite stubborn to get out and had some corrosion and "gum" on it. I dont believe it was any sort of anti sieze. And I only have had the bike since sept. with no rain days. and only 3500 mi. because of winter. I'm sure it would have been a real bitch to get out after a year or 2.
