Intermittent Popping/Hesitation/Sputtering upon Acceleration
Hi everyone,
I have been experiencing, and what appears to be gradually increasing, sputtering/slight hesitation/popping upon acceleration. I say gradually increasing because it's been pretty cold here in Chicago this week, and I am wondering if the colder weather is causiong the increase in this issue. Anyway, after searching this forum, it seems like many folks have experienced this issue upon decel/rolling off the throttle. My experience is the exact opposite. Any thoughts on what this may be and how it can be addressed? I have a 00 flstf with samson exhaust, stage 2, power commander. Thanks.
Shouldn't be bad gas...I am always running fresh and often add Sea Foam to the tank.
I bought the bike private party and was told it had the power commander...I am really not sure. This is my first motorcycle. Excuse my ignorance. It has aftermarket Samson exhaust, Stage 2 kit....and under the seat there is a Screaming Eagle performance device that is plugged in to the electrical circuit. I thought this may have to do with the mapping for the aftermarket exhaust? Or is mapping for fuel injection only?
The power commander thing seems a bit odd to me, but sounds to me like a carburetor issue. My Springer did the same thing when I first got it. The stage 1 and true dual pipes had been installed without adjusting the carburetor.
Could be the same issue with yours, and now that the cold air is coming in, it's starting to show more. Could be a jet issue or maybe try adjusting the mixture.
When you change the way a bike breathes such as air cleaner and exhaust, you have to adjust the fuel supply to match the added air. Otherwise, it will hiccup, burp and fart like what you are explaining.
He said it has a power commander so it is efi however it is the MM efi and they are the worst to work on. We have seen many of them with worn out throttle shafts causing erratic tps values . They are non serviceable due to discontinuance of parts. The MM efi system was a touchy system to start with. The best thing to do is up grade it to the S&S vfi conversion. You will wish you have done it a long time ago.
A 2000 Fat boy was carb only. Fuel Injection was not available on a Softail until 01. It sounds like he has a Screamin Eagle ignition module and the power commander part was false info.

I'd look for an intake or an exhaust leak
Gotcha ! Yes intake seals are a common failure . also look into and see if the jetting is correct. It may need a larger slow jet due to the colder temps.
