I swapped out the stock mufflers for a set of baffle-less fishtail slip-ons on my 03 Heritage Springer. I checked with the dealer where I bought the bike and verified the bike has had Stage 1 (it has the round air filter). I've emailed and called Dynojet 3 times now and have tried 6 different MAPs they have given me still with no success. With all the MAPs they've told me to try I get hesitation and popping in the higher RPM range in 1st-3rd gears and again in 5th gear at around 75 mph. The weird thing is the MAP that comes closest to working right is the one for all stock but I still get popping in the lower gears but not the 4th or 5th. I'm pretty sure it isn't a problem with the bike or the powercommander as both were functioning perfectly before the new slip-ons. Anyone have any experience with the powercommanders or any idea how to find the proper MAP since dynojet doesn't seem to have a clue? I'd hate to go back to the stock mufflers but if I can't get it to run right with the slip-ons I may have too.
Other than finding a map on their site that matches your setup. Your only choice is a dyno tune or trial and error. If you know the rpm where it is popping and can guestimate your throttle position and add fuel where those points converge and then ride it to see if it had the desired affect.
Canned maps will get you close.... Only real way to totally dial it in properly is to get a custom map with some Dyno time.
my two pennies..
this is spot on. Downloaded maps have tons of slight variations in them..something as simple as the air pressure at your ground level altitude can throw them off. The only ways to truly dial it in is to take it to an indy with experience with the PCV, or get the auto-tune.
I downloaded a map from Dynojet's site, and it was good yeah.. but it was night and day after I took it to an indy to dial it in... the 'feel' was just phenomenal.
Downside.. my indy charged me $200 for the proper tune, but worth every penny..except the two I just put here.
Is Ur problem a little popping or Ur motor isn't running very good.??
sometimes even with a really good tune U'll still get a little popping.
.
With the MAPs the Dynojet suggested the motor ran horribly, with the all stock MAP the bike runs goods and has excellent power just has a little bit of popping in the lower gears.
So I've decided to try and make my own custom MAP by trial and error, basically starting with the all stock MAP which is the one that works best and modifying it to try and make it better. I get popping when not accelerating in 1st-3rd gears. So Would I need to add fuel to that RPM range or take fuel away?
