Default Forward Control extension kit installation

Well, I finally got my Arlen Ness forward control extension kit installed on my Springer this weekend. Amazing what a difference 3 inches forward makes.....I never would have believed it. I'm glad I got it put on, but what a pain in the a$$ to get it all done. First problem was getting the exhaust off. After fighting with the heat shields for over an hour to get them off without scratching them to death, I found out that about half the heat shield retaining springs were missing. Then, I found out that you have to have tiny hands and some kind of magical tool to get the exhaust bolts off......which were loose by the way. Can't use a regular socket in there...not enough clearance, and not enough room to use a regular wrench. Anybody have any secrets to get them things off and on easily? Anyway, finally got all that off. Replaced the stock brake linewith the nice stainless steel one, and had it bled with the Mityvac in about 10 minutes. Moved on to the other side, no problems on that side to speak of..... All together it took about 5 hours, most of it fighting with the damn exhaust system. All the rest of it took about an hour total. A word to the wise,....check those exhaust bolts and mounts. Mine are property locktited now (except the exhause head bolts). I'd still like to know the secret to getting those bolts loose and tight without a miracle or magic tool. Any of you long-in-the-legriders will really appreciate the extra 3 inches of legroom the kit provides....well worth it.

How ironic- I just took my extensions off this weekend! They are leg savers, but I put on boards, and found with those, my legs were too extended- it was an uncomfortable angle for my ankles. Man, those things were murder to remove! Whoever put 'em on my bike figured if a little Loctite is good, then LOTS is better! Oh, well, bunch o' busted knuckles later, some new (Allen head) bolts, and I'm in business.

Check out heel rests- they're really comfortable!

First off congrats on getting it done. Secondly put on some photo's. I never looked at the Arlen Ness outfit, I was deciding between HD and Kuryakyn. I had the HD extended put on my Springer. I doenjoy the room as well (I am 6'3"). I havethe stock seat back on now (as my wife has her own bike... 2006 Deluxe) and there is even more room. I need a new solo seat... Oh well maybe next year? I did replace my stock pipes with the V&H's and did not have as much trouble as you with the head bolts. Maybe because I was using my 1/4" set?

Did the HD extensions and there was no need to remove the exhaust or heat shields. Was that part of the Ness instructions or because of the aftermarket pipes. The HD kit took about an hour to install.

Would the Ness kit fit a 2007 Deluxe? The website says it's for 2000-2005 FXST models. I would really love to get some of these for my Deluxe if they fit.

Yes, it was part of the instructions....you have to remove and replace the extended rear brake line, which runs along the right side lower frame rail, right behind the exhaust pipes. No way to get around it that I could find.

Yea, you had to remove and replace the brake line with the HD kit also. I have V&H Longshots and had no trouble at all accessing everything. You really gotta like the extensions though!

I have Kuryakyn Iso-Wing mini boards in place of footpegs. They are amazingly comfortable...and look great. You can't see them too well in the pic below, but they're there. (this pic is before the extension install) I will have to post some pics.
