HB as others said, be thankful Ur still here and not all messed up. Us ridders HAVE to a great defensive rider to stay alive anymore..
How every it plays out. I am sure U'll be made happy somehow.
T-Bone, Thanks for the heads-up about we should get our insurance policy to cover the appraised value.
Don't take much these days to add up fast, I only have around $6K added mods in mine and most people can't even see it.
Just Wondering though.. If involed in a crash that is the others fault. does there insurance have to cough up the extra, or does Urs pay the diff??
Stiggy, it is my insurance that will be writing the loss check. They turn around and sue her insurance to recover the dough, if I understand how the process was represented to me correctly.
To Gir, dansax, spydyr, tbone, and oct1949, thank you all for your well wishes. With any luck, I will even be walking again in a few more weeks. And I am quite grateful that I am still here to mourn the loss of my first Harley.
To those who expressed this concern: I have an attorney. I hoped I would never find myself in this position, but when the police officer arrived at the hospital a few hours after the accident to return my documents, he told me that it was a pretty clear case that it was 100% her fault, and that she was cited for careless driving. I hoped to make it through this entire lifetime never having to sue anyone. I did not ask that woman to pull into the road directly ahead of me, however, and as has been mentioned in another thread, maybe skyrocketing insurance premiums will cause this woman to look both ways from now on, and maybe another rider's life will be saved because of it.
Marty31, do you ride? Or are you one of those guys with a 15 year old Harley Davidson motorcycle in his garage with 500 miles on it? Granted, sarcasm doesn't quite shine through on this forum, but I was simply trying to point out that it seems to be worse for her to say that she looked, because there was nothing to block her view. However, it is not an exaggeration to say that she could have killed me. So why not? Thank you for your well wishes, though. I knew I could count on the support of my fellow riders.
H&B, terribly sorry for your loss, though happy you were able to walk away...so to speak. It could have been much worse. I understand your attachment to the bike. Motorcycles have a tendency to become part of the family. People that do not ride just don't understand that. Bikes aren't so much like children, but like a dog you raise from a pup. Whether it be bone stock or a beast of a machine when you first get it, it's not perfect. It's not yours. You have to train it. You have to spend time with it to develop the relationship. You spend hours doing research to find the best parts to put on it and watch it blossom into something you love. Men had the exact same relationship with their horse back in the old west. That's why it was ok to put a man down when he stole your horse. Remember this, it's water under the bridge my friend. It's only money. If you want to keep her get her back. If you want to hand it down, what the title says doesn't make a difference. As someone else stated you can increase your attachment. Even if you have to find a straight frame and rebuild from the ground up using the heart of the bike you cherish.
And as for the old lady, the best you can hope for is her kids deem her unable to drive ans strip that away from her so she doesn't do that again.
Good luck with your recovery and with your decision on the bike.
Glad your OK, bike can be replaced...I have also had 2 older (older than me...LOL) drivers pull right out in front of me this year and came as close to t boning them as you can get...one last year also...it's like russian roulette out there every time you drive...The look on their face is "clueless"...When I get to the point where I cannot drive safely, I hope they pull my license so I don't kill someone...either that or have my kids disable my vehicles like we did to my Dad's suv when he got dangerous...LOL. Get a new bike and get back on that horse. Ride safe.
