Default Mikuni HSR42 On A 2000 Fatboy

I was wondering if anyone could tell me anything about the Mikuni HSR42? I'm looking to put one on my 2000 Fatboy. It has cams, a little head work, exhaust and all of the other supporting mods besides a carb. Is it really just a drop in kind of mod out of the box? Did your low end/mid range change at all?

Does any one know if it will work with the Kuryakyn Hypercharger?

Thanks

Swapping out the Harley CV carburetor to a Mikuni is one of the best upgrades you can do. It will put a smile on your face as soon as you ride it! Mikuni's are easy to tune and provide instant throttle response. Harley sells a Mikuni kit under the Screamin Eagle line that includes intake adapter, and allows the use of your stock Throttle cables. It will be money well spent.

Notes:
-The Harley Mikuni kit includes hardware so that the stock Choke cable can be used. My stock choke cable did not work properly with the Mikuni. I purchased a Mikuni choke cable from JP Cycles and the problem was solved.

-Every bike is slightly different and requires individual tuning. My 03 Night Train with short pipes had slight Deceleration Pop with the Mikuni. Increasing the idle jet 2 sizes eliminated the Decel Pop and the bike ran flawlessly. Again you can get jets from JP Cycles.

As for the Hypercharger, I personally don't like them but yes, it will bolt on to the Mikuni with the adapter included in the kit.

Thanks for the info. Going to do the carb and put a baffle back in my Vance & Hines 2 into 1 Bigshots to gain some low end/mid range power back. Had the bike dynoed at Sturgis this year, by looking at the graph I could definitely improve power out of the hole, it was lacking needless to say.

Just out curiosity, why don't you like the hypercharger's?

All quality "Stage 1" air cleaners perform roughly the same providing the same results. I've installed Hyperchargers on several bikes of riding bothers of mine. In my humble opinion, the Hypercharger has to many parts, completely over engineered, and complex. It does not provide any additional performance than other brands and or designs. My favorite intake is the Arlen Ness Big Sucker. Simple, yet effective design.

I'm a big fan of the Mikuni too. But I'm curious as to what cams you're running?

I wish I remembered, I bought the bike years ago the way it was setup. Spoke to the previous owner and he gave me the run down of everything that was done. I for the life of me can't remember which cams they are. I guess the only way im going to find out is to tear it down, she's got 105,xxx miles on it now and still going strong. Hopefully that day comes later than sooner.

The bike flat out pulls from 0-100. I'm real anxious to see what a carb, a baffle, and some dyno tuning will do for it.

You'll be amazed what that carb will do.

I'm considering of going with a Mikuni too. I found some interesting Mikuni test results here towards the bottom of the page:

If you do the swap let us know how you like it!
