I just joined the HD nation with a 08 Nightrain. I am doing an old school bobber style to it and am trying to use as many old recycled parts as I can. I am wondering what exhaust will bolt up to the 96? Do I have to buy for a softail only or will other models exhaust bolt up to the motor? I can weld and fab so I am not so worried about the brackets and such just the pipes bolting up to the engine.
Whichever exhaust you end up going with, make sure it has O2 sensor ports - the previous owner of mine installed and exhaust with these ports and thought it all OK to just do away with the O2 sensors.
I have a new exhaust system and O2 sensors arriving in the next few days.
Make sure it is from a softail but also pay attention to if it has floorboards or not. My brother has a crossbones which is softail but it has floorboards so the exhaust from my nighttrain will not fit around his floorboards. It would probably work the other way but we didn't try that.
