,,, I keep leaning towards the Thunder-Max, as it constantly maps, reads and makes adjustment on the fly. ,,,,
I'm not familiar with the Thunder-Max, so this may not apply to it:
I installed a Cobra fi2000 and had to remove it.
The way the fi2000 works is it monitors your shaft speed constantly, (80 times / sec) and adjusts A/F to maximize speed for a given throttle input by microsecond trial and error. I dunno if the TM works this way but if it does ?!?
My ride had a stage 2. Though theoretically, this should be no issue, I've read reviews by others whose fi2000 functioned improperly and the common denominator seemed to be that they had cam-ed their rides too. This may or may not be something you need to consider.

HKMark23, my bike is all factory at this point. I have done my research, and have looked at the Cobra tuners. From my research, I figured the TM would be best because it monitors actual exhaust gases rather than the revs of the motor, and tunes accordingly. That being said and me being kind of a motor head, I just thought that would be the more accurate system. None the less, still is a delema I am having. Because I don't want to buy a product that does not work to it's full potential. I guess with TM it is also fully customizable as well, leaving the door open for endless possibilities etc.. If you don't mind me asking HKMark23, why did you remove the Cobra tuner? Where you having issues with It? And why, what issues were you having, and how did you correct the problem. This EFI stuff on Harleys is a good concept, but after owning both carburated and fuelinjected. I still love my carburation. Lol some much easier to work on and dial in. Per say. Thanks for your reply. It is greatly appreciated.

The Cobra units plug into the O2 sensors as well.
I don't understand the technical reasons for the problems I had. What was happening with the fi2000 installed was that the engine would run fine while cruising along. It starteg great too. On acceleration, however, the engine would surge, (alternate between accelerating and hesitating) with constant throttle applied, the surge was prominent. These symptoms stopped when the fi2000 was removed. My BO has torque to spare from 2800 rpm on up, running on 204 cams with a SEPST which contains a map for the cam. This BTW is a relatively inexpensive mod. The SE 204 is a drop in, requiring no extra head work to optimize the cam. There's a nice lope at idle and plenty of pull in 6th gear.
Hopefully someone with better insight than I can make more sense of this for you. I simply tried the Cobra, thinking as you are, that because of its design, it would do the necessary as required. It didn't work and, as I mentioned above, I noticed a number of other reviews which were negative on the fi2000 were by owners who had done a cam upgrade as I have.
Did some more research and the digital handlebar gauge should be doable. Pre '18 speedo uses a 12 pin plug with only 5 wires going into it and the '18 speedo uses a 6 pin plug also with only 5 wires. Because these bikes are both BCM the speedos need no programming to work (just plug them in). The only thing left for you to do is to view a '18 service manual to repin the 6 pin plug correctly. Oh, and a bunch of parts of course.
Total $361.41 for this project. Harley dealer prices may vary depending on your dealer. Hope this helps.
As far as my preference of using the fatbob gauge. They are both using 12 pin plugs with 5 wires, just need to make sure they are pinned the same.
Instrument gauge - 70900703 - $172.82 Surdyke
Has anyone actually done this yet and proved that it works without causing any errors, etc?
I have a 2016 BO finally got around to adding intake and exhaust, my question is where did you mount the FP3?
Thanks for the advice
I just put mine under my seat, are you looking for a more specific area than that? I can take a pic if you want, I would assume the layout is similar whether it's a cvo or not

Would love a picture of your set up, there is room next to the battery, just always nervous getting anything to close to the battery.
Vinman411 please post a picture of your setup, I have also a FP3 on my FXSB but at the moment I disconnect him and it sits in my workshop. So I can not use the app because its not connected to the bike al the time.
