Pistons and cylinders, I would only use a complete set (pistons and cylinders from a previous engine) as long as I could verify the pistons matched to the cylinders. Even then I'd probably want to at least hone them and re-ring it.
Cams, sure as long as I could inspect them first.
Obviously, anything with excessive wear or damage is going to be scrap.
There are tons of "used" twin cam jugs and pistons on ebay that are like brand new because the owner just wanted to increase displacement...I would use them without a second thought.
