Just ordered a WHOLE bunch of parts for this bike including the analog speedometer, from Surdyke....free shipping until tomorrow night, plus 20% off and no tax....can't beat that!
Put one on my 2013 Classic. As others have said, LCD display options are better, and tach is now easier to read. Using different colors for the speedo and tach needles and face make it easier to read with just a glance.
IDK if anyone will see this old thread and respond, but I want to install one of these speedo/tach upgrades to my 2008 softail. The thing I have not found anything mentioned anywhere about the compatibility of these upgraded instruments with the security system. I would assume it would work, but sure would hate to get a speedometer that doesn't have a display for the security system, assuming it has to have that light in the speedometer... If anyone knows about the compatibility of security with these I would appreciate any experience you have.
I have the KMH version, Yes the security system works fine with it. The fuel gauge is as described above, as is all of the other features. I do like mine, pretty colourful at night.
It is 10x more function-able than the original, but I only got mine due to the deal I got on it. If it ever craps out, it will be replaced with a Dakota Digital Speedo. I had one on the Street Bob and loved it even more. I had much more functionality to play with. Also the Dakota Digital is a completely sealed unit, no moisture issues what so ever like most of the original factory ones have.
Thanks for the reply. Yea the DD speedos are probably the best but a little more coin and I don't ride this bike that much ... One thing that is bothering me a little now is I see the description says "5" speedometer" (I am looking at the 70900070B) and when I put the calipers on the face of my speedometer it measures about 4 5/8. Were there two sizes of speedometers on the softails and I have a smaller one or do they call the speedometer I have a 5"? Anyone know this?
Here's a link to that part number. Go to the link, scroll down to fitment and see if your bike is mentioned. Not sure which softail you have but this will tell you if that speedo is compatible.
I did that and my bike IS listed or I would not even consider this speedometer, I guess I was just a little uncomfortable buying one that said it was 5" to replace mine which measures 4.625" thats all....
IMO.... if your upgrading your speedo because you like the style and different colors of the spun aluminum speedo that's cool...... but if you want a gauge that has a tachometer that's a lot more legible, I would go with this one personally (from the HD stuff anyway).
