I have a thunderheader exhaust that I want to rechrome. I have contacted several chrome platers and they are all telling me that this is not an easy process and very expensive. I am curious if anyone has rechromed a thunderheader exhaust and/or an exhaust with a built in baffle like the thunderheader?
I believe the reasoning is that on a pipe that has been run, it's almost impossible to get all of the exhaust contamination and carbon build-up out of the pipe. Since it has to be dipped, there's a high possibility that residue in the pipe could contaminate their entire chroming process.
As mentioned, you'd be better off with a powder or ceramic coating...
ceramic coat it and don't look back. Jet Hot di mine over 5 years ago and it still looks great with a simple wash down. Not chrome but I wanted different. Do the pipe in black and get the chrome shields. That looks pretty good also. Trying to find a picture of a buddies bike that did it that way.
Interesting feedback. Lot's of recommendations for ceramic finish. Not something I really considered. The bike is all chromed out. Maybe a little offset might be nice. I like the idea of installing the chrome heat shields on top of the ceramic finish. That might look nice. I also want to look more into the chrome like ceramic finish. Has anyone done this?

Haven't done it but before I had my RH TDs coated, they sent me three samples so I could see what the finished product would look like on my bike.
JMHO, if you want a nicely chromed pipe, get something else. The Thunderheader may be a great performing exhaust, but they look like an apprentice's welding project.
