Since it's in a shop you could also ask what the compression is, that's an easy test for them...
My springer rides like a Lincoln, the power is adequate at stage one level, it's no bar hopper but everyones definition of that is different. Mine was right around your asking price last year with only 4500 miles on it, but they do hold their value so if you can get it for 8500 to 9 then it's probably considered a good deal..
