Adjusting Softail Shocks at home ---doable?

This might give you some idea. Forgot to mention this video is for adjustment of Progressive shocks, but it does show how to adjust the preload.

Thanks.......did not know I can adjust ride height/travel as well as preload ...................

I'm going to max both as soon as weather permits ......

also looking in the HD catalog at the "Comfort Flex Rear Shocks". discretion indicates a 1" raise of seat height over stock and increase in stroke -travel, damping and general improved performance. Interesting...........

If you are going to replace your shocks then I'd seriously take a look at the Shotgun Shock. It's price is pretty steep but well worth it. You can adjust it from completely slammed to 1" over stock IIRC. Plus full control of rebound/dampening. I ride in the Sierras a lot and love being able to bump up the hight and stiffen them up to increase my cornering but also being able to soften them up if I want a nice plush ride.

Preload only on the stock shock.

The height adjustment in the video is for the Progressive 422 shocks.

I'm curious as how some of you get the nuts loosened without jacking the bike up. Maybe my wrenches are just too long.

I cut a wrench in half so it was easier to work under the bike.
