Default Truck Lite on a Fatboy

I installed a 7" Truck Lite on my 2010 Fat Boy. I also purchased a French trim ring. When I went to install it I noticed that the French ring did not have the 2 slots on the edge of the ring like the Original ring does for slipping over the 2 tabs on the housing. Without the cutouts the French ring does not slip over the Truck Lite. How do I get the French ring over the tabs for the installation without forcing the ring and possibly ruining it???

I had that exact issue when I did the same mod. Here's what I did....

First I got rid of the "pointed out" tip on the bottom front of the lens. With that gone, the trim ring will slip over the top of the upper tabs of the mounting ring and with just a little persuasion, the ring will clear the bottom of the light assy.

Thank you for your response. How did you remove the pointed tip?

The visor french ring fit fine on my '11 Heritage. Just started it on the bottom, and worked my up evenly on both sides. Then gave it a little pop with the heel of my hand at the top; snapped right on.

removed with a dremel tool. It's just plastic. hdgzr's method might work for you too.

I had the same issue. I felt like I could get it to pop on but I thought what if I have to take it back off?
I used an angle grinder and carefully notched it like the stock ring. I went slow to keep it cool so I didn't overheat the chrome. Seems like it should already have been notched to me? Mine is good to go now.

I am concerned about removing the ring also, but also concerned about the rust that will probably form as a result of cutting in the tab slots. What can be applied to the fresh cuts to prevent the rust?

Aren't there two different French rings? Maybe you have the wrong one?

PS- post semi close-up pics! I've been thinking about doing this for a while.
