I kind of Let this thread go into limbo, I just wanted to update a little bit, I decided to go to a little more work... Cycle visions makes a mounting bracket for both the batwing and shark nose fairings. The batwing brackets are just not as visibly advertised. I had purchased an inner and out fairing set from a guy locally for CHEAP and I really like the looks of the Harley fairing. Hawg wired makes a bracket to properly support any aftermarket radio in these fairings so I picked up one of those and got a set of stock speakers for now and a complete headlight assembly from a buddy. So now I need to work on gauges and handle bars and relocating the turn/driving lights. I am also thinking of changing the hand controls. I thought I had seen or read somewhere that there is a product that plugs in to the wiring loom in order to use the stock radio controls with an aftermarket? In the end I am positive I could have bought one of the more expensive removable fairings for the same price as this mod or pretty close anyway. But to be honest, I have no intentions of removing it. I will update with some pictures when I there is some progress. The weather is too good here to be down for anymore work just yet.

hey there josh!
how is the project going?? i'm trying to decide on what kind of fairing to go with on my heritage as well and had my mind made up on aftermarket until i saw what cycle visions did with an oem inner fairing on a softail and fell in love all over again!

this is how i'm wanting to do mine now with the speakers in the gauge spots.

how were you able to fit the oem inner/outer fairing on your bike?? does it bolt right up to the windshield mounts?? how are your bars fitting? i have 16" apes and have already accepted i will need new bars for this. hope your project is still on track!!

i'm still too new to forum to look at any posted pics

the only thing that i dont like is that as far as i can tell i would be losing my passing lights and probably have to relocate my turn signals. not a big fan of that. were you able to keep your passing/turns?

The project is coming along slowly, going through a divorce, so it's kinda on the back burner. I am trying to decide if I want functioning gauges or more speakers right now. Hawg wired makes the module that plugs into the wiring loom on touring bikes, it allows the use of an aftermarket radio and still keep the hand control functions, which I would like to add. Also I have decided that I am pretty much married to this project so I am doing it all out. I have ordered new wild ones chubby bagger apes, same as the ones I have now, just with the bagger bend. Cycle visions makes a bracket that replaced the stock windshield mounts and bolts onto the triple after the headlight and nachel has been removed. This mod does require removal of the heritage passing light bar, but I have purchased the passing bar kit for a street glide, spendy but done right. At this point depending on what I decide to do about gauges is what's holding me up, then paint. I will update with pictures when I am going together or have more progress.

decided I should update a little. I have spent the last couple months getting the parts I need and then some. I decided to go with the oem setup on the inner. I am using the speedo and the tach and the oil pressure, the others seem silly to me, and honestly I think I might switch the oil pressure for an oil temp gauge. found a guy local that had a complete inner minus the harness, and he made me an offer I could not pass up, the inner came with a complete and upgraded tour pack. I also picked up some hard style lower fairings from a guy I work with, but I digress. I have the inner fairing setup with the main instruments and an air pressure gauge for the air ride system in the rear, 2x 6.5 speakers and 2x tweeters in place of 2 of the small gauges. I am in the process of building a harness for the instruments, speakers, radio , and lights. I want to be able to lift the fuel tank and plug into the harness and go. Then to paint. I will get some pictures posted as soon as there is notable progress, at this point its mainly just informational updates. thus far, it would have been faster to buy an aftermarket fairing and have been done, but I like the way this looked in my head and its starting to look even better. The only thing I have overlooked until just recently is, what to do about the tank mounted dash. I would like to move the key switch to the neck like the touring bikes, but i am not sure if that's a possibility. I might be running around with two speedos on the bike.....

So there has been progress and completion since I last posted. I got the bike together and just rode and forgot about the thread here.... I will upload some pictures when I get home from work. After all was said and done, I am into this project more than I am proud to admit lol. But its worth it to me. I was able to find parts that would work or was able to fabricate parts to work. The only down side, is I am running around with two speedometers, I wasn't able to eliminate that. not a biggie, most people don't really notice it until I point it out. Duh. I still need to get all the lights installed and wired up for the tour pack, I got it put together and let that but slide. There are a few other things I would like to change or add, I need to re-assess the stereo situation, aftermarket decks don't last.... Like I said I will upload some pictures in a few hours.
