Can any one tell me what's involved to remove the speedo on a 2005 deluxe I was thinking about pulling mine and having the bulbs replaced with blue there is a guy on the forum who offers this service he not sure about the 2005 he has not done one yet does a lot of the later models. I think the 2005 is analog and the newer ones differ. Any one who has pulled the speedo on a 2005 let me know the later years may be different
I had considered going with the low profile console on my Deluxe the other day and came across this link. It doesn't tell how to change bulbs, but at least its a starting point. Hope this helps.
The PDF link above my post tells you what you need to know. I just pulled mine for the second time this past weekend to replace the console.
Any reason you wouldn't consider changing the Speedo to the new style with configurable color option? Did mine this year and I think it's great.
Tons of color options as well as digital gas gauge, gear, clock...
changing it is easy. pull the nut in the center of console, then its just some wiring to deal with. word to the wise, i changed out my console for the long low profile HD one and changed to the new speedo/tach. it doesnt fit out of the box. the back of the speedo rubs on the gas tank sending unit. u have to VERY carefully grind away some of the speedo om the back for clearance! HD makes no mention of this so be aware.

Mike I checked out the speedo you recommended and I had to think it over for awhile and I made a move on it and purchased it 251 dollars delivered. If I read the info correctly on my bike being a 2005 the digital gas gauge and netural lights will not work. I had known that HD had came out with a dial in color speedo but the first ones to come out would not work on the 05 deluxe. Now the one I purchased Part# 70900070A (mph only mentioned analog I beleive the, others are digital any way it went for it seen a vid on YouTube showing on how to install it looks easy. The reason I hesitated was that this new speedo does not have a retro look. Well I guess the trade off of having a tach and being able to set my colors on the speedo are worth it all though looking down at a tach is kind of stupid if your cranking it out you should be looking at the road in front of you. I got a few mods to install but I'm going to wait for it to get warmer here on the east coast. Thanks for the heads up on the speedo

Great, but for the record the only function that does not work on my 06 is the "Range" otherwise everything else works fine.

Mike the spec sheet said the gear indicator and range feature wont work on the 2004-07. i guess the fuel indicator does work. mike what is the range feature what is it for
The range feature gives you an 'estimate' of how many miles you can ride with the remaining fuel in your tank.
It's handy, but it's variable based, and I personally don't feel it's the most accurate feature. You're probably better off using your tripmeters to determine where you stand.
Also, I hear you on the nostalgic look. I have this same speedometer/tach on my 09 Springer. It looks good there. But, for my 06 Springer Classic, I ordered a Deluxe speedo with the mileage reinstated. Cheaper, and it looks more period specific for that style bike.

Strangely though the Gear Indicator works for me. Not that I really pay attention because the numbers are small. It also only registers gear while in motion not idle...
For the price I thought it was a good buy for what you get.
