Default Helmet Radio

I want to get a radio so me and my wife can talk while riding. Not sure how they work or what is best. I have a Fatboy so there is no plug ins on my bike. Is it built into the helmet or does someone make an independent system? What system is the best? Thank you.

I'm sure there are lots of threads on this already, so do a little searching for more suggestions. But the wife and I just got the Sena SMH-10 kit and it seems to be really nice - I did a lot of research and that one was the one everyone talked about the most. We've used it a couple times but since I don't have a windshield and her ff helmet doesn't have a chin windguard piece it was hard to understand her at speed. Low speed was great. Plus I love listening to tunes and being able to answer calls.

Go to Revzilla.com and check out their selection on Sena stuff. They have comparison videos that are second to none and great prices too. For your set up I'd say check out the SMH-5. The SMH-10 has more bells & whistles like a greater distance for bike-to-bike chat. I bought a pair set and liked it, then bought one that fits my half helmet. Simple and I like that I can stream music from my phone to it when not with the wife!

Pull the foam cover off the mic and put a piece of scotch tape over the hole that faces outward. That cleared up the wind noise a lot on ours.

Why the hell would you need to answer calls while riding? You're as bad as the cagers......

Is that with the boom style mic? I might have to try that but right now I have the smaller mic stuck on the inside of the helmet.

Really? Answering a call with a voice activation to say "Yep that's the place, we'll meet you there soon" is as bad as the cagers txting and talking with their phones against their heads? Everyone is entitled to their own opinions and what they are comfortable with I suppose.

Yes. Especially if you can tuck it behind the shield, even if it is a bit high.

Check out the UClear system. It's boomless and uses digital noise suppression to block wind noise. The wife and I use them and love them. http://www.uclear-digital.com/us/

+1 on the Sena SMH-10.

Wife and I've had it for two years now and it works great.
We use it with our 3/4 helmets.

I'm thinking of getting full faced helmets for long rides and think the Sena will rock even more with that setup.

One thing to add, if you get the Sena system make sure the helmet module is completely "snapped" in place. It sucks to get home and then realize the module feel off.

The positive side of losing a module, is I was able to find a used system on e-bay that only had one module, now I have a second set of helmet mounts so I can mount the system on 4 helmets and just swap the modules when swapping helmets.
