I ordered some 4" stretch hard bags to mount on my fatboy (no hardbags previously) and the bags came without dimples indicating where to drill for bag pins and brackets to the inside of the bag (closest to bike). The hinge is fairly self explanatory becasue it only seats in one spot. Is there any template or measuerments/guide that exists that can help guide the exact spot these "holes" are to be drilled? I found the exploded view of the parts to a hard bag but it shows the general location where the hardware goes but no exact position/placement measurements. I guess I am winging it after it is seated the bag in the bag brackets and hope to line everything up properly. Crossing my fingers that someone knows this info and is willing to share. Thanks in advance.
how are you mounting them? cyslevisions? bagger tails? etc?
No matter...the stock HD OEM bags holes measured as outlined are...
open bag...
at front of top edge of bag measure 5 3/4", mark spot...then 2" down for front hole from top of bag.
with bag still open...
measure from top rear edge of bag 4 1/8", mark spot... then down 2 inch from top edge of bag for rear hole.
However if you have a mounting system mentioned above...install the mounts and place bags on the mount(they will sit atop the supports) and mark holes from mounting side.
disclaimer...I am no engineer these are my measurements on my bike using HD OEM bags with cyclevisions bag mounting system.
