Default Softail oil filter removal

OK I just bought a 96 springer and it's been sitting for a couple years. when to change to oil and crushed the filter. Looks like the gasket wasn't lubed or he cross threaded it on. Right now all that's left on is the base of the filter. I've tried to chisel it off tried my impact chisel ( have to be careful using it). Anybody got any ideas?

+1 on the PB Blaster, let it soak in for a day or so then hit it again with a chisel.

I had this happen to me when I was young on my first car.
I didn't have a Dad around to tell that the purpose of an oil filter wrench was for removing a filter not tightening it.

After a bunch of WD40 and chiseling, I finally got it off.
I've since discovered that PB Blaster appears to penetrate better than WD40.

Worst case if you can't get it off...replace oil filter housing.

It is a penetrating oil similar to Liquid Wench and WD-40. You can find it at auto parts stores.

Default oil filter removal update

Just thought I would pass along that I finally got the filter off. Had to take the oil filter mount off then put it in a vice and use a pipe wrench to twist it off. Someone really cranked this one down. Left a groove on the flat surface from the edge of the filter and the gasket was dry and stuck on in places, nothing a little acetone wouldn't remove.

As long as the oil filter gasket is lubed, you can crank a filter pretty tight and it will come off without any drama, but if you put it on with a dry gasket...good night Irene.

The same thing happened to my 97 heritage a few years back. I make sure to lube the seal and not over tighten the filter now.
