Thumbs up

if they would have had a Non-Studded option then I might have considered the Heritage so at that point I knew I would be changing a lot of things and I thought the Deluxe was a bit cooler looking,

Don't get me wrong I like all Harley's to one degree or another, but the Deluxe is just down right sexy!

That's exactly the kind of riding I do and I think the deluxe is suited quite well for it. I use it to commute most days, with the occasional long day ride and every once and a while the mrs will hop on the back. Some long rides and some short. We both find it quite comfortable. That being said I prefer the styling on the deluxe better. Mine has factory hard bags and a quick removable windshields. The hard bags are especially nice because they have a push-button lock to open and close them. No buckles and straps to mess with.

I say deluxe all the way!

I looked at both the Deluxe and Heritage. I decide to focus on the Deluxe cause I didn't like studded seats, light on front fender, or tail light. Then I got a great deal on my Deluxe.

Sitting on a bike and riding it are two different things. One bike might feel better in a show room but maneuvering it in a parking lot might be something else. I was looking hard at a heritage { rented one once when my custom chopper was in the shop again}and test drove a roadking first . When I drove up a street and turned around I felt the king was just to heavy, but not a big deal but as I kept riding it the seat kept sliding me into the gas tank. Then I rode the heritage before I got to the first light I knew the test ride was over!!! I think you should rent both bike if you can!!!!

Keep in mind if you buy a bike second hand that the owner could have changed out something's . And he may of forgotten or doesn't think its a big deal so that bike will not ride the same as one that you rent.. good luck on your choice! swifty

Thanks for the replies guys; your advice is absolutely spot on! I don't plan on doing anything until I can take both for an actual test ride. I too am not wild about the studs, but my feeling is if everything else is right, I can always change them out. Conversely, if I love the Deluxe I would have to add bags and windshield anyway....its good to have options. : )

Is it true that other than the accouterments the bikes are exactly the same? Suspension in particular....

Basically, the Heritage is designed to haul some stuff and carry an occasional passenger. Set up right, it can be stripped down in a very short amount of time to satisfy those moments when storage and wind protection isn't of utmost importance.
I honestly didn't think I'd utilize the saddlebags that much, I just have always loved the classic look of the Heritage. I find now when my wife and I take little jaunts around town, that the bags come in real handy as we always end up making some sort of an impulse buy...and we need someplace to put it.
Not knocking the Deluxe by any means; my son has one and they are beautiful. It's just that the Heritage has convenience and adaptability built into it from the start. And it's the bike I've always wanted...
And yes, the bikes are essentially the same...

After riding the Heritage with the stock bars you will find they are one of the most comfortable bars around. I felt the same as you when I first got my Heritage. I now find they are the best set up I have ever had on any of my Harley's.

When I went to buy my Harley I was looking at a Fatboy Lo or a Deluxe. I moved to the Deluxe pretty quick because of the paint options and the seat height (I'm short). Then I noticed that the passenger pegs on the exhaust side came out between the pipes and I didn't like that. I looked over at a Scarlet Red Heritage that was just a few dollars more than the deluxe with bags, windshield and sissy bar and the passenger pegs were above the exhaust. I bought the Heritage, had it lowered one inch, bought a used Deluxe riser and replaced the handlebars with Harley reach bars. I run the bike solo most of the time but if I decide to go on a trip, I've got the stuff I need. I have been very happy with mine.
