I use a portable cable lock. It has a 4 digit self-chosen security code and the cable itself is rubber coated and fully retractable. Cable length is appr. 4 ft. See pic.
I chose this so I could also pull the cable through the sleeve of my jacket and lock it to the bike together with the helmet.
Good one , please let me know who makes it.
Edited : OK lots of them on Ebay, thanks anyway for the idea.

What's a helmet and or a helmet lock? No, all seriousness aside I guess in the near future here I am finally going to have to get a helmet after some 40+ years of riding. I am going to retire soon within the next year and I plan on traveling. I am going to have no choice but to finally own a helmet. I wouldn't even have the slightest clue in where to even start. I am sure of this, it's going to be a half helmet of some kind. I could not imagine riding a bike with a helmet like I wore when in the dirt.

Believe it or not there happen to be places on our small planet where it's mandatory to wear a helmet when riding. But let's not open this discussion. Once you have one you might want to lock it to your bike and not carry it around with you all the time.
No, your right Dude. I don't want to wear one so I am sure I don't want to lug it around. I take it this topic can get heated like an oil thread for some reason? Also, people, losers are actually dumb enough to mess with a bike and to take and steal from one? Honestly, how many guys here have had a helmet stolen off of their bikes?
I was going to give the Kuryakyn a +1, but the only place it works out is the highway bar. Not sure how much good the engine heat will do for the helmet hanging it that close. Time to look into the gun cable lock I guess.

Are you kidding? You don't think some douchebag would steel a $300+ helmet and put it on craigslist?

Use that one or the HD one on the down tube and rest the helmet on the shifter. If your engine is that hot that it will damage the helmet then I am surprised it still runs.
I have this lock too. I have had good luck with it for two years now. It is also handy to look luggage zippers, etc., too.
When I was looking for a helmet lock I was coming across this one as well. Looks solid and is small and can be combined with a steel cable. Only I don't remember where it was but I read some reviews on the internet of people reporting problems with this lock which means it would lock but never unlock again. The only way then to open this lock is a good hacksaw or an angle grinder. Both are tools I would not want to use near my frame, handlebars...actually not anywhere near my bike ar all. But maybe those where only replica from China.
