I rode it about 35 miles on the freeway to get her home and it did awesome. No hiccups or anything. I am not to familiar with these builders but apparently they are big in the bobber build scene.
Jetlag is correct, I had a lock on the disc and the cord is just a reminder
Thanks for looking everyone
$6700 for that bike in La La Land
is a smokin" deal!!!
Chickin, I not only burnt my leg already but I was parking the bike and forgot about the belt and when it caught my pants it scared the living hell out of me! Took me by surprise haha.
Being in insurance, I took a picture of the guys license and the pink. Everything matched up so I have to assume it was not stolen. Not that I am the best judge of character but the guy seemed like he would be the owner of that bike
The guy at Bartels (my local Harley dealership) told me the carb needs to be tuned and there is a slight oil leak coming from one of the heads. So I will be throwing a bit more coin at this thing but over all not that bad. About another $350.
I also think I am going to have to do some more studying on Harleys V-Twin engines. I always thought that the cam shaft spins and turns another shaft connected to the transmission which is where the clutch/gear control is. With a belt system i thought it totally replaced the chain linkage of those two shafts so there was no chain anymore. Time to google!
Bad *** looking bike.
I'm more jealous you get a chance to ride, I'm stuck in the east coast in the teens digit weather with more snow next week.
For what its worth, we might get more "Rideable" days out of the year but we are pretty limited here in the city. Cruising the beach on PCH is the closest place where you can really ride with some scenery. Other than that you have to either head up north a bit or way down south. There are a few canyons and things like that but the ricers usually have it taken over. I admire you mid west guys and east coasters for your scenery. Northern California is nice but its a bit far.
It can be a real pain in the *** riding in the city... I dont consider myself an expert but you really learn how to judge your surroundings riding around here. I actually was almost hit on the new bike pulling into Bartels! Some asian guy in a Mercedes pulled out in front of me and when i slowed down to confront him i looked back and he was STILL looking down at his phone. I had to gas it and and make a hard right maneuver to avoid being rear ended by him after he pulled out in front of me.
Bike looks awesome. Maybe get it out in some sunlight to get some better pics?
Thanks man!
I wanted to do just that but its been raining. The bike is currently at the shop so when I get her back, if the weather is good ill ride to the beach for a little photo shoot
Great looking bike and a great price! As for the cam chains and tensioners, just look up Twin Cam 88 tensioners on Youtube and you'll see what we're talking about. Briefly, the cams are chain driven on the right side of the engine, and there are two cams, chains, and tensioners. In the early twin cam engines, ('99 - '06 I think) the chains are "silent chain" instead of roller chain, and the tensioners are spring loaded. This combination wears the plastic tensioner pads fairly quickly, and they should be checked periodically. When I got my '02, it had 16,000 miles. I checked mine and they were fine. I will probably check them every 10,000 miles to be safe.
