Great looking bike and a great price! As for the cam chains and tensioners, just look up Twin Cam 88 tensioners on Youtube and you'll see what we're talking about. Briefly, the cams are chain driven on the right side of the engine, and there are two cams, chains, and tensioners. In the early twin cam engines, ('99 - '06 I think) the chains are "silent chain" instead of roller chain, and the tensioners are spring loaded. This combination wears the plastic tensioner pads fairly quickly, and they should be checked periodically. When I got my '02, it had 16,000 miles. I checked mine and they were fine. I will probably check them every 10,000 miles to be safe.
Hey Trickasabrick,
Thank you for the information! I had found out about the tensioners before when i first joined. I even told my old man to have the tensioners on his bike checked.
I was also way off in thinking the V-Twin on this bike was that simple. In my head, i thought the cam was directly connected to a shaft that spun the belt without any other chains or gears. I am def going to be doing some reading up on these V-Twins
