I have the basic warrenty and it expire's march 03 2008, so may see about extended warrenty until It get's close to expire but I have heard it cost as much as $2000.00 for 3 or 4 year's and who know's probably trade for newer bike, but even if you can extend to buyer or dealer the warrenty, I'm sure you will not get back what you spent.
I got the 4yr extended warranty but with all the mods I've made (pipes, big bore, SERT) there are plenty of MOCO excuses not to honor it. Hope I don't have to put it to the test.
I just bought a 2007 deluxe, and got the extra 5 year warrantry, and it cost me about $1000 for the five years,I will be glad to have it if anything major breaks !!!!! yo Bill
SO think about it, you paid $1000.00 for three warrenty, the first two come from dealer, and like someone else mentioned, I have bought pipe's, S.E.R.T., and dealer said not to worry he had my back!!!!!!! But I think if something major happened he would make me pay, you never know now who to trust or what to say to someone, life is full of surprise's, it's getting tough now a day's, people are on breaking point, sorry guy's that is for other post I was on and said something that was complety taken wrong and now I have to say word's carefully not to make some one mad.
I generally do all of my own work, but since we travel 100% of the time, the only place I have to work is in the enclosed trailer. While I have awell equiped shop in the trailer, I wanted the option of letting the dealer do major repairs. However, the thing that really sold me was the out of town service. I have had my '03 HC about 8 weeks, and have already added 2000 miles to the clock, so we take the bike everywhere. Since we traval, we rarely know anyone in the towns we stay, so if we have a breakdown, we have no one to call to get us back to the motorhome. Having the dealer standing at the ready to address a bike failure was worth every penny I paid.
I got the complete extended warranty, 7 years with tire and wheel rider and seals and gasket rider too. Cost me $2000, good until 2013. Actually, 5 years after the factory warranty. I dunno, lots of money, specially if you decide on a new bike in 2 years. Who knolws what the MoCo will comeout with by then?
Maybe I'm a cynic, but I look at any extended warranty as just a way for retailers to make some extra profit. Every time you buy any consumer electronics at one of the big box stores they club you over the head to buy the warranty. I recently went to a Radio Shack to buy a headset for my mobile phone. The headset cost a whopping $29.95 and they tried to sell me an extended warranty. When I asked them what the manufacturer's warranty was, I was told 90 days. I told them that if that was all the manufacturer offered for a warranty, I didn't want the headset at all and I walked out.
With any of these warranties, it's important to read what's actually covered and to what extent. Typically, there are deductibles, maximum coverages for limited components, etc., etc., etc. And, if you ever actually need the warranty, you too often end up fighting for the coverage you thought you had purchased. In many cases, the warranty is not even underwritten by the manufacturer of the item you purchased. It's a third party company whose primary mission is to make money. It's a lot like an insurance policy and they underwriters of many of these warranties are betting they never have to pay out on them.
That's not to say they're all bad. For many people it's worth it for the peace of mind. But, as I said, read the terms and conditions carefully before spending a bunch of money on one. Make sure you know what you're buying and who is responsible for "honoring" the warranty. I'm just suggesting it's like anything else you spend your hard earned cash on: Buyer Beware.
HEY that sound's GREAT will they still back you if you install new pipe's or S.E.R.T. ? My dealer told me he had my back if something went wrong even after small mods. but somehow I feel like he may speak with forked tongue , but never know these day's. GOOD LUCK.
