Default Rear fender question for you guys?

I'm looking into picking up my first Harley here in a few weeks and I'm already looking at all sorts of mods and accessories lol. My question is: On the rear fender, I see a bunch of bikes that are slammed with a 3/4 to 1 inch rear fender gap and the fender is still mounted to the factory strut mounts. Do the mounts move with the swingarm or are they pretty much making it a hardtail to get that look?

Most of the fenders I see are "strutless" but they utilize the factory strut mounts, hopefully going to ride down to the dealer when I have an off day and look at one close up and in person, but until then I figured I'd pick your brains a bit!

Thanks,
Jake

What harley are you looking at? Stock they pretty much all have the swingarm mounted to the frame so it does not move with the swingarm. The Rocker came stock with a swingarm mounted fender, and there are kits for other bikes to make the fender swingarm mounted (although it will require a new fender).

I'm looking a used 2011 Blackline, it has a strut mounted fender stock I believe.

Yes it does. Most of the aftermarket strutless fenders still mount to the frame, unless they specifically say swingarm mounted. As for the bikes you have seen with the tires close to the fender, it's a case by case basis as to how they did it. With a frame mounted fender you could lower the bike for that look permanently, you would just have a harsher ride with less travel. There are air options too where you can have a comfy ride, but just lower it when parked for looks.

Nice looking bike! So you just air it up when you ride? I didn't even think about air ride.

I'm still leaning toward the bobber style fender mounted to the swingarm because I like the look of the solo style seats.

Thanks guys,
Jake
