I own a Breakout 2013 model. Each time I have to refuel it on its stand, it leaks around a half gallon on the ground. Not on its stand, there is leak but less.
My HD reseller told me that's correct and there is nothing to do. They told me that as something to do with the air output of the tank. I'm not satisfied with these kind of answer.
I'm looking for guys that had face the same problem and I would know how they solve it.
Stop filling it up so much, there's a fuel overflow tube and when you pump cold gas from underground to a warm tank you get expansion and out she blows.
I have never heard of fuel coming out of the tank vent. I don't think it's possible to fill it so full that it overflows out the vent before it comes out the fill hole, especially 1/2 gallon!?!? The bottom of the metal bit at the fill hole is where I always fill mine and that is well below the vent, and in 50k miles in all weather conditions have never had a problem.
Where is the fuel coming out? Fill hole? Vent line at the back of the frame? The fuel pump cover plate under the dash? Quick disconnect at the fuel line? More info would certainly be helpful here.
seems strange, but when I had my 99 fatboy, If I filled it to the brim, sometimes a little would run out of the vent hose, but not a 1/2 gallon. A few spoonful's maybe.
It made a decent size spot on the ground, but it wasn't much gas in reality.

Wow. If some slap *** told me it was normal for my bike to leak fuel like that, I'd run in the other direction. Absolutely not normal.
If you're over-filling it, that's one thing - but it still shouldn't leak a half gallon.
Myself - I would suspect over filling, clogged vent tubes, and the like.
granted - mine's a 99 carbureted EVO, but I have never gotten it to leak while on the side stand, filling the high-side tank. And I bring the level right up to under the filler neck.
My breakout had a small leak at the crossover line just under the tank at the front. They caught it at the 1k. i believe they just tightened the clamps or added some. Didn't look close to see.
