Question Fuelpak FP3 for 2013 Softail Slim

A quick check, if I may...

I'm about to lash out on a V&H Fuelpak FP3 (the latest one) for my 2013 'Slim.

The reasons being

  • I can fit it first, without doing any mods beforehand.
  • The set-up procedure seems pretty straightforward.
  • It (may) improve the running with the standard filter & pipes (Autotune)
  • I can add a high-flow filter and exhausts later, and re-map after each step.
Ultimately I'm only after a cooler, stronger running Slim. I'm not converting it into a drag-racer.

Any thoughts, pros or cons welcome.

Cheers.

I have one on order. My thoughts are pretty much the same as yours except I installed V&H siip ons to get rid of the cats. I mainly want a cooler running bike that sounds better as well.

Thanks for the reply

Let me know how you get on.

My plan is to fit a K&N HD-1611 filter element, to keep the standard look,

Then, to get some slip-ons, again, to get rid of the cats (they get too damned hot)

I installed my FP3 last night. Paired with a heavy breather and big radius 2:2 pipes. Programming was super easy. I don't have a PC, so I love that it's compatible w the iPhone.

I have not had a chance to ride it yet, but after programming I did notice that it idles a little slower. Hopefully it rids me of he horrendous decel pops I was getting before the tune.

I look at it like this. If you're doing basic bolt ons and want something to clean up the fuel management as well as add a few ft lbs of torque, get the FP3. If your wanting to build a ported beast with cams and suck every bit of power out of the engine, get the Power Vision.

For me, the ease of use, no PC, and no interest in dyno tuning made me go with the FP3.

So it is as easy as the videos make it seem? Select your setup, install the maps... Did you leave attached or flash and remove?

I have read here that the FP3 does not store data logs. If that is the case, then this is an issue. If there are no data logs, then how do you tune open loop?
Closed loop should be taken care of by the autotune feature as it relies on the factory narrowband sensors.
I don't know of any way to autotune open loop without wideband sensors.
So, basically, if you want to tune anything above moderate part throttle you will need a set of wideband sensors (or a dyno with a wideband). That's where the lack of data logging comes into play. If you cannot log the problem areas, how do you know which part of the calibration to adjust?

So.....

Are you suggesting Vance & Hines would market a ECM tuner, that can't cope with anything above moderate to part throttle openings?

Or am I missing something, based on the technicalities mentioned?

I am saying that without data logging, I am not sure how you will adjust the fueling and spark in open loop.

I don't mean to test your patience but how/when/why is this a problem?
