Is this the "snub-nosed" version? Profile (side) view?
Nope, mines the standard version as far as I know. 24V's is shorter I think. I ordered mine over the phone. While talking to her, I did mention that my bike had the Blackline dash. She said that was an important detail. I told her that I did NOT want any of the dash fasteners exposed - that I wanted the nose of the seat to cover that stuff. She said that was how they usually did the seat, so no biggie there. That's why I think my seat is just the regular seat they offer.
This pic is the closest thing I have to a profile shot.
Seat looks cool NSR. I almost ordered one the same way, but went another route with mine. I'm working with them now on a issue though.
Can you please post pics of your mounting setup? I tried going the Velcro route, but don't think it's going to work for me.
Thanks.
I don't have any pics of the mount mods I did, but they are very, very similar to what 24V did, if not identical. He posted pics here on the forum someplace, iirc. I don't recall where I saw the thread - I went from memory.
It's already too dark here in Jersey to get any new pics today...crappy, dark, rainy day. Tomorrow is supposed to be better & I'm going for a ride. I'll try to get some new pics.
Pretty much the same way yours is, I'd wager... bolts in from underneath. I cut & modified & painted the DG brackets and dug some J-Nuts & matching bolts out of the "misc crap" box.
I heated and yanked off that plastic fender protector too. You put anything under your seat to protect the fender?
You know those two big white nylon washers that keep the factory HD stud plate in place? I dyed them black with some RIT dye. They now keep the bolts in place when I take the seat off. No dropped bolts. They are also the only thing keeping the modded DG brackets and J-Nuts off the fender. They are pretty thick, so I'm not too worried.
How do you get at the bolts? I'm glad I have looong arms, but I can barely get my arm in between the fender & tire. I can't reach up there with a 1/4" drive ratchet & socket while wearing a jacket ... or even a flannel for that matter.
I did mine the same way, and left the plastic washers to hold the bolts. But, I got sick of squeezing my arm up in there so I took all that off, and just velcroed the seat on. There is a little gap at the back, but not too bad.
Hey I know this thread is pretty old but I am curious how that fg airhawk seat held up? I am going to purchase one but they are recommending that if I get the airhawk that I also get a stitched design on the seat, she said it gets bumpy. And most people don't like the looks of it... just curious about your thoughts on that. I really wanted the smooth leather seat,, but not if it's going to look like crap after a month..
FWIW gang, in the spring of 2016 had my DG seat completely redone locally - with gel this time. The local guy I brought the seat to says that DG is notorious for using thin leather and thin foam. After a year or so my seat REALLY flattened out - it even looks flat in the pics I posted earlier in this thread. It eventually got even worse. The seat became uncomfortable too.
The outfit I brought the seat to used the DG seat pan to rebuild the seat ... and that's the only part they re-used.
Bottom line is - the DG seat was good early on, but it just didn't last long at all.
I am on my 3rd Danny Grey seat on my 3rd Harley and I wouldn't buy any other. Everyone has their own opinion, and if it isn't unheard of for small shops to talk ****.
Considering many Harley seats are made by DG, they can't be that bad.
That's disheartening...I'm on their site now trying to figure out what kind I want. They didn't offer any kind of warranty?
Anyone else have issue with long term DG?
It wasn't worth it to me to contact DG again. I guess I'm not a "Give 'em a Second Chance" type of dude....?
I'll post some pics of the redone seat later today. I've had the redone seat on the bike since the spring of 2016. I put more miles on the bike in 2016 than I did in 2015 (2015 = original DG seat on the bike). It honestly has held up much better than the DG seat.

So, I'm thinking the solo with the airhawk (even though I don't like any of the mandatory stitch patterns provided). Now, I know it provides better hold which I need, but will it also move me up a bit on the bike? The slight lean takes a toll on my back on longer rides.
I have not had airhawk in any of them. I had gel in the first one (Blackline) and nothing in my Breakout. Now I have an IST seat on my Road Glide. All of these have been fine. Order of comfort for me would be IST, then regular, then gel.
