My stock 88 was very slow. Shortly after possesion I did the stage 1 which helped alot. About 5 years later did the cam, BB and dyno tune. It runs very good now but kinda of wish I would have put a hotter cam and did some headwork, oh well. I know it is much faster than my stock 103 limited.

First, if you are shopping a Softail or harley in general looking for speed, you are in the wrong store.
MoCo has the best design department ever, make it just ugly enough that you will upgrade several thousand dollars in parts. Make it just unresponsive enough that you will upgrade the motor. Make the rear tire just wide enough that your wife thinks her *** still looks good so you have to upgrade her wardrobe.

I upgraded the motor and ecm on mine, not because it was not responsive enough, but because I could make it better.

Dunno, I have an '88 1200 Evo Sporty and I'd have to say that my 103" Deluxe would beat it at any stage of the game except for maybe the first 60 feet take off. After I hit second on my Deluxe, I'd be gone. The 1200 has straight pipes, filter and rejet with the Deluxe having short straight pipes, filter and Fuelpak. Other than that, both engines are stock.

I am surprised that your surprised.. it's well known that the 1200 Sporties are pretty quick.

If you want more you have to pay the Harley Tax, like all of us do to get more out of your BT..

keep us posted on your up grades..

My deluxe is pretty quick but it's far from stock. I have been thinking about getting a Jim's motor for my bike but mine runs so good I'm just going to wait and if the time comes when I need to dig into this engine them I may go the Jim's route big bucks but plenty of power. I have always wanted a monster to ride my bike is now quick it's a built 96 and a factory 103 or 110 would probably eat my dust being that they have all the EPA junk on them. One thing I would never do is waste my money on a street league upgrade. I ran into a guy who had a dynes with a Jim's motor in it something like 130 ci and wow that thing is a beast and from what I read they are built pretty well.
