I got sucked in this winter also,I had a hard time sticking that much money in a shock when I really wanted wheels! This winter has been brutal! I go out and play with the shock at least once a week ! Wednesday they are talking 60plus degrees and the roads are covered in sand but I have to go out and try this thing! After reading countless posts and talking to JD I'm confident it will be worth it!

Good writeup...

I don't recall ever seeing this mentioned here but last fall I called JD and asked if there was any preferred "state" to leave the SS in for extended storage.
He told me to dump all the air for long down times...

That's what I was thinking.

As for the shocks, I'd have to ride a bike with them, before I spent that much money. And then I'd have to be really, REALLY amazed.

That's one of the things that's always puzzled me.
There are more than enough reviews here to give you an idea what the improvements can be - and guys are always concerned about the price.
And how many times do we hear from guys saying they don't want to drop that kind of coin just "to look cool"? (They're the ones who are totally missing the point of air ride IMO)

Sometimes these are the same guys who think nothing of dropping $3,000 on a set of wheels, which do absolutely nothing to improve the ride - because they, well you know, they look cool.

Well said my friend. Personally, I think he is VERY reasonably priced. Airride is not cheap. I have a bagged car and even doing all the work yourself, just parts adds up QUICK. I'll be getting the Shotgun this year as well, and I know it will be worth it. I'm getting it for looks. I want the slammed look and I want to have full control of ride height. If you guys were paying any less for an airride system for your BIKE... frankly I would be scared of failure do to cheap components!

I tried lowering bolts to get the "look", But the ride suffered greatly.
I bought the SS on sale through JD's HD Forum special. Am very pleased.
Now I've got the "look" and the Suspension.

LOL I got my air ride for $350.

My hi-lo system works fine for me. I can ride with it up and absorb whats needs to be, OR look cool as $hit and ride it slammed with about 2" under it scraping allllll kindz of stuff : )

Again, you get what you pay for. This will be my 3rd year of riding on my Shotgun shock and it is still just as fun as the first time I rode on it. I also have to be honest in saying that the 1st summer I rode on it I was doing it all wrong until JD schooled me on it and the proper way to adjust it.

Nothing on my bike but a few major things on my bike has been swapped out, changed out, chromed, upgraded and or modded out. The SS is still my favorite with my apes a close 2nd. This is probably my last bike but if I ever did get a new or a 2nd bike those 2 things would be changed immediately, it would go straight to my INDY's shop.

Also, it is so much more than just looking "cool"! It adds comfort through the roof and a great piece of equipment to improve safety too. Would I do it again? Yes, in a heart beat. I still have yet to see 1 sinlge person who has a complaint. klf33 did that 1st year but I think even he has it figured out and enjoys it fully now too.

Softails are the only route I would ever go and I would never own another one without it. Yes, it's that good and worth the price.

I hear what you're saying but I'd still like to ride on one first. And while I may never get these shocks, I'd still like to feel the difference...not read about it.

As for money...the most expensive thing on my bike are my pipes.
